K.S.Gopalakrishnan @ Bengaluru- Any review???

Post by semmu86 »

I missed my third KSG concert consecutively after moving over here :( ..

I was in a half slept state in my coach on the Sunday (24th) nite train, when i noticed someone getting inside attired in vEshti carrying a mrudangam. I was so sleepy, i didnt bother checking who could that be.

Next day morning, as i got down from my coach, i saw Mannargudi Easwaran sir standing in the platform with his vAdhyam. I immediately introduced myself and he was very happy, "Oh you are that semmu. I used to read your posts. You youngsters certainly know your stuff. All the best"..... I felt so elated by this compliment and blessings of Easwaran sir... One of my most cherished moments..

Am sure the concert with Easwaran sir accompanying must also have been a treat...

It was a good concert - typical KSG where there are no theatrics but pure classicism. My only crib was he should have chosen something other than madhyamavathi as main as he had played it in fort highschool rama navami festival (the bangalore music season) in april though he played rama katha sudha then. he indeed was splendid, the sangathis were awesome and it was really a great experience. Every song had some alapana - some more than the others. Nice neravals and swarams.

sahana varnam - karunimpa (R)
atana - sri maha ganapathe (?) (R,S)
MMG - tulasi dala (R,N,S)
riti gowla - janani (R)
malavi - nenarunchi
palinchu kamakshi - madhyamavathi (R,N,S,T)
bhogendra sayinam - kuntala varali
tunga teera
visweshwara - sindhu bhairavi
baghyadha lakshmi - madhyamavati

It was a splendid concert. Mridangam accompaniment by Vidwan Mannargudi Easwaran was special indeed.
The team was KSG-MA Krishnaswamy-ME-MA Krishnamurthy.
Cannot write enough about KSG's creativity and poignant rendition, it is something a rasika should experience.
This concert of KSG was a good opportunity for Bangalore-rasikas as the concert was in a good Auditorium with good Accompaniment and the concert was for about 3 hours. ME's tani was marked by the use the taala-patterns of KSG's korappu in swarakalpana giving a KSG touch to the tani as well.
