At the end of the concert Shri UKS spoke as follows:

“ If shree RKS can sing like this at 91,he will sing for not 2 hrs.but 8 hrs.when he turns 100” and RKS replied in a humble manner that it is due to the association he had with past masters like ARI,SSI,etc.who used to come and stay in his house during their visits to Mysore that he is able to sing like this.

What more shall I write ? It was amazing.Be it the svarams for Malahari or the filler sangatis he sang @ Sree vanithA chittha kumuda for Lavanya Rama,the niraval & svarams for Kamakoti,the short sketches he sang for almost all other songs except kedaram and Saveri were all excellent.

MC,UKS & SSK played their very best to make this an amazing experience for the rasikas.

A request to ganeshkant and others on this forum: please provide full names of artistes, not just the 3-letter acronyms some of us are familiar with! People with differing backgrounds read this forum, so it's best to be clear with names of the artistes. Thanks.

For the benefit of those who may not have figured out some of the acronyms used in this thread:
RKS = RK Srikantan
UKS = Umayalpuram K Sivaraman

BSU = Bharath Sangeeth Utsav?

Hmm. I don't remember this ever having put me off. But yeah, doing this with artists' names is usually all right, but BSU, or even MA (for Music Academy), etc., is stretching it a bit too far. Even for artists, we should take care to avoid ambiguity, and full names are better for the less well-known artists. RKS is used by some for R K Shriram Kumar too (I use RKSK for him). There was a N Ramani-N Rajam confusion between me and a friend in an exchange of emails.

UKS, ARI, KVN, SSI, MMI, MSG, TNK, LGJ etc. are fine. Some of these, like the SSK in ganeshkant's first post, become clear in the context.

An advantage of using these initials is that you can fit them in the title when the full names won't fit. I had to contract T M Krishna to TMK to fit him in, for example.
"If shree RKS can sing like this at 91,he will sing for not 2 hrs.but 8 hrs.when he turns 100”
Dumb curiosity, but did UKS say this in Kannada? :$

I almost choke up at these RKS concerts. His pracheenam, the golden voice, his obvious self-enjoyment of the music, appreciation for the mridangam... Here is someone who has grown up in a pristine village on the banks of the Kaveri, with music filling the home morning to night, hosting the greats of the early 20th century. Enough to make me get goose pimples.

UKS spoke in English -- you might know his is of a very high standard. And he ensured that the nonagenarian got the standing ovation that he deserved.

Oh I forgot to say -- the Saveri alapana and kriti were v memorable.

WHAT A CONCERT !!!!! The Sunday morning brought an end to an almost 4 month old drought of getting to attend good CM concerts after having moved to Bangalore. One can go to a RKS concert, just to listen to him sing the varNam alone. What verve!! what energy !! what enthusiasm !! One can only pray that he continues to sing like this for years to come..

Sunderkumar especially played beautifully...Especially the thisra gathi which he played (Including the famous "Tha.dhi.tha. kita thaka tharikita thom" korvai), is as close as one can get to the Legendary Harishankar.. A definite star in the making... Sorry isn't he already one??

Sri. R K Srikantan's energy and vidvat continue to dazzle us! I like his selection of items too.
Looks like Ramakanth was not part of this concert - is that the case?

Always_Evolving,
I am glad you mentioned the sAvEri. I was wondering--how can a sAvERi not shine when Srikantan was singing it!

Sorry Folks.I must have written about the excellent support provided by Ramakanth.He completed the Saveri alapanai taking the upper octave from his father and major portion of svarams for the Saveri kriti also.His manodharmam was very good.
