Very sad to hear about it; I have listened to a lot of kutcheries wherein he played and also I have listened to his sister Kovai Gnanambal.
I think, one of our forum members, rasali, is related to him.
Condolences to the family ,friends and students of the vidwan.

Our family's condolences to his family-I knew that he was ailing from his nephew who is also a forumite rasika.
He was a very humble and gentle man understating his prowess--his style of playing was the Rajamanikkam Pilai style--unobtrusice and yet mellifluous. Personally, he accompanied Semmangudi Mama(with PMI) for my wedding--he was in his Mid twenties--that was the first time he had acompanied SSI and PMI--(Disclosure: my wife being from Coimbatore he was a de facto Asthana Vidwan for her family and hence was chosen to accompany SSI!!!).KD was very nervous but SSI and PMI encouraged him and he shed his inhibitions and was brilliant in his accompaniment--Thodi(Sree Krishnam) drew spontaneous sabash from SSI. he was extremely happy to have accompanied SSI before an elite audience in Coimbatore.
If anything he was overly modest and restrained himself on his own be it in the Alapana or kalpana Swarams.
He was one of those rare artistes who truly believed in Music as Nadopasana and not as a commercial avocation. He was an excellent teacher and some of his disciples-including his nephew-have visited the US.
He was by no means old and the Carnatic Music World has certainly lost a sedate and consummate violinist,
Condolences to his family.

So sad to hear the news of the passing away of Kovai Dakshinamoorthy. I lived in Coimbatore in the 50s a couple of houses from where he lived and I had the privilege of meeting him after 55 years in Aug 2010 in Chennai. A great violin mastero and a dedicated teacher is no more and MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE. Deepest Condolences.

Dear Fellow Rasikas,
On behalf of the family and disciples of my uncle Sri Dakshninamurthy, I thank you all for the messages of support and condolences. While I will certainly miss him, I take solace in the fact that his was a life well lived and till the very end his musical faculties were sharp and he got to enjoy it's intricacies to the end.
Just a month or so before his passing on he discussed with me how beautiful and demanding he found the sangati "MNDNP" in the Kalyani Adi talam varnam.
MKR Sir - Thanks for sharing the lovely story. I had mentioned it to him after I heard it from you a few months ago. He was very thrilled to hear it.
Mankuthimma - Thanks for posting the clip. I did not have this recording.
Best regards,
KVS Vinay
Nephew and disciple of Sri Dakshinamurthy.

Rasali
I had the privilege of watching one of his Videos where he played with SP Ananthapadmanabhan .Some Private session . This must be about six years ago when SPA started training under him . In case you dont have it , you could follow it up with SPA . That was a nice treat .
