Accompaniments:
M.A.Sundaresan – violin
Mannargudi Easwaran – Mridangam
Guru Prasanna – Ghatam
The venue was the convention centre @ RH Rd.This concert comes under carnatica's samarpanam series.
The programme was titled “ Rakthiyum Bhakthiyumâ€.
RK tried to explain what is Rakthi.but named a few rakthi ragas and stopped there and started the concert.Probably he would have thought ‘actions are better than words’.
I request some one to post the meaning of rakthi.Let me be the Arjuna here.
Played the Saveri varnam first and next came Tyagarajas Nayaki classic ‘kanugonu’with a great sowkhyam that sounded like a lullaby.
The sub main was in Latangi. An ereudite alapana followed by “Aparadhamulannu†N,[email protected] complimented beautifully both during the alapanai ( there was a small savAl,jawAb) and N,S.His reply for the alapanai was bit in contrast to RK’s.He needs to bring in the parur style. Is it not ?
The main was in Reethigowlai.A detailed alapana followed by Janani of Subbaraya Sastry. The tani by the percussion duo in mishra chapu was very crisp and drew sabashs from RK and his father Mr.Narasimhan a no.of times.
Post tani he played a padam in Chenchuruti(a new one in rupakam, hearing for the first time) and a javali(?) in Ghanta.RK explained ‘though Ghanta is a janyam of Todi,it has anya svarams like chstushruti R&D giving it shades of Dhanyasi,Bhairavi,Punnagavarali, Asaveri ( I gave the last answer when he quizzed the rasikas) and got an appreciative glance from RK and I felt very happy.
Next came a thillana in Poornachandrika and then Mangalam.
I attend concerts of a few artists with a view to imbibe some knowledge and RK is one of them. This concert was no exception. How much I liked the kriti ’sadhAmadhim’in Gamabheeravani and an array of svarams he played during a recent navarathri concert !
I hope he plays that again in another concert where I am present.I thought of placing a request here but restrained myself.
Shri.NRavikiran (chitra veenai) on 02/12/10 for Carnatica.

Re:OST concert at Meenakshi College on 05.12.10
Yesterday I had been to OSTs concert at Meenakshi College.
Vocal OST
Violin Delhi P Sunderrajan
Mridhangam udhra Bhaskar
Ghatam - Unknown to me - somebody who attended this concert please update
Song list
Saveri Varnam
Sowrashtram - Ganapathini
A familiar sounding raga - could not identify the raga and the song
Poorvi Kalyani - not a familiar song to me
Khamboji - O Rangasayee - Main
Khamas - Marubari
Kapi
Jonpuri - Eppo Varuvaro
Mangalam
Generally OSTs concerts are like MG(min guarantee) concerts. you will definitely feel good after the concert. But somehow this concert was not under that category. Violin vidwan was the earlier self. There was a marked deterioration in his playing. Mudhra Bhaskar has to come up to playing for songs, good in parts. The ghatam player was good and was all smiles throghout the concert.
The delienation of PK and Kamboji was class. Particularly on the upper octaves of Kamboji. when he settled on long karvais in very many places this rasiga thouhgt that he was going to do sruti bedham but that was not to be.
Another most observed feelings - the masterpieces of stalwarts always ring in your ears when the songs are presented by other vidwans. Similar feeling was there for O Rangasayee and Eppo Varuvaro and though it is not right and fair to expect the same exhilaration of the stalwarts, this was very much below the mark.
This is my first post in this forum. I am still learning hence please pardon if anything is out of the ordinary.

Re: Shri.NRavikiran (chitra veenai) on 02/12/10 for Carnatic
Ganeshkanth,
A Ravikiran concert means class, clarity and tranquil moments. Thanks for the review. A rakti rAgams list is not a bad idea! !
anandasangeetham,
Please write more reviews! With so many concerts in the offing, we need as many reviewers as possible. Regular reviewers (Rajesh, for instance) are going to be busy with work too. Some come to Chennai for a short period of time (like Bilahari and Kedharam). So, keep the reviews coming!
