Varieties of Composers, Padandhram, Vidwat and rendition mean Satur Sisters. Their
2.15 hours music is a traditional journery in to music. This one is not for
"I want innovation" rasikas.
As mentioned by Tanjore Ramados after the concert, who also played his father
Sri.Satur Subrahmanya Iyer (SS Iyer)-"He is one of very few vidwans who come with
panchagacham, Kudumi. Vibhuti and full of vidwat those years and steal the show
These daughters are no less in vidwat and carrying the tradition of their father"
Ironically, he never played Mridangam for female artists. This is the first one !!!
Engaging senior artist has got problems too. His mridangam sound is too high
which reduced the vocal reach of BR, a sort of "Prospective of senior vidwan accompanying professionals"
Bhava-laden, sangathis-laden karaharapriya was one example and the way BR constructed
the raga alapana and exchange of Neraval and swarams were a delight to listen and watch.
Normally, after the main, vidwans forget Gana Ragas and they dwell into Sindubharaivis,
behags..But they took Mysore SS Rao's Javali with most engaging chittaswaram
after each verse and returned the swarams in the reverse at the end before finishing
in Todi. Tani was an energetic display.
People who don't know Smt Visalakhsi Natarajan- She has penned more than 500 kritis only
on Paramacharyal of Kanchi. with no music background, not learnt music, she has written
many compositions and on various ragas. Amazing. Like Mangalam Ganapathy.
Vijay Siva (Janaki college), TVS (Sastri Hall), Sanjay Subramanyam (NGS) performing on
that day, I chose SS because they are not performing anywhere else this year.

I attended this concert from the end of the varALi. This was a concert I wanted to attend from the beginning, but things kept delaying me.
I thoroughly enjoyed the music. The khpriyA was just too good. The presentation by the vidhushis and the perfect accompaniment were really touching and i was totally moved with the concert. All the songs were rendered beautifully and the manodarma parts were fitting.
The alapanai by Smt. Bhuvana and the kriti with the sisters exchanging neraval were all wonderfully developed culminating in the kalpana svaram korappu and kOrvai that Smt. Lalitha finished. Sri Ramadass played so well for each line of the song adding so much effect to the music. Even the tukkadas were so classical and punchy. I did enjoy the rAgamAlikA piece.
Great concert. It was wonderful.
PS: I usually, as a tradition, start my season outings with Sri Vijay Siva's concert at Nalinakanthi, however, this year I departed from my practice and went to Nada Inbam for this concert, as this is the only place they are singing in the season, hoping I can make it to another concert of Sri Vijay Siva over the next 2-3 weeks.
PPS: srI kAmAkshI kaTAkshi is a composition of Thiruvarur Ramaswami Pillai and not that of Subbaraya Sastri
PPPS: I have seen and heard Sri Ramadass accompany women musicians in the past and hence am sure this is not the first time he is accompanying a Lady vidhushi.

Sattur Sisters@nAdaInbam on Dec 09th,2010:
--------------------------------------------------------------
I attended this concert for two precise reasons:
I wanted to hear them for the first time .
The concert being advertised as 06:15 pm start I thought I will get atleast 2 hours 30 minutes to 45 minutes.
The sisters did start with a lovely shankarAbharanam varnam , the next chakravakham was a nice rendition and it is quite long since I may have heard this vasudevacharya rendition. aTAnA took a dip as some how I found the gelling just did not hit the sweet spot.
The varAli submain always interests me with an alapana and swaras that had a nice finish.GNB's saraswathi could have come better. The kharaharapriya was not the best of kharaharapriya that I had heard in the last few years , to an extent I felt there could have been more musical aesthetics and a grip over the usually tight gripped kantiki sundara and the swaras
After a quick passable yk kAmbOdhi , I have to say the pick of my day was that lovely javali of mysore sadashiva rao , as GRS said it was really well done . Each ragas had a nice dose of cittaswaras and they did really well . The last saramathi had lines like kanavil vaNdu karunai puriNdhai in saramati just reminded me of an extraordinary saramathi that santhanam sings karunai puriyum mugham in the same saramati , I am just floored with saramati and also any references to mahaswami chandrasekara saraswati.
The sister Smt bhuvana santhanam takes more lead in general , but her voice is not that strong enough . Smt Lalitha santhAnam who has a face cut like her father shri subramanian certainly has a more stronger voice . The sisters do balance well, (in the sense of no domination ) but can certainly gel bit better . Also the sisters never announced the composer ,I heard about sadashiva rao when smt jaya of nadainbam asked , but only thru GRS i am hearing this saramathi composer- smt visalAkshi natarajan(musicians take a note of this saramathi, it just gives that zing)
As GRS said the mrudangam was consistently loud, I did complain to the mike man who came around twice , but he just said the mridangist is playing too hard . To an extent both percussion at times did drown the music. The violinist was average and did not pep that well the concert.
When I came in at the hall there were just 5 to 10 rasikas , it picked to about 30 . I guess lot of people may have flocked other sabhas .Overall the sisters certainly had a great choice of presenting rare krithis, but musical aesthetics could have been better. Overall a good to very good concert for 2 hours and 15 minutes.
