Kuldeep Pai at Ramana Kendra, Alarmelmangapuram

Post by srutibedam »

Kuldeep M. Pai - Vocal
R Raghul - Violin
L Subramanian - Mridangam

Venue: Ramana Kendra, Alarmelmangapuram
Time: 4.20 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Inta Modi varnam - Saranga
Santhanagopalakrishnam Upasmahe - Kamas (S)
Parvati ninu ne nera nammiti - Kalgada
Murugayya Arul seyya venumayya (R,S) - Rasikapriya (R,S)
Kula birudunu - Devamanohari
Balasubrahmanyam bhajeham - Surutti (R,S,N,T)

The main piece was followed by a Sindubhairavi thukkada, which lyrics I cannot recall. In all, it was a very enjoyable concert with a lot of good tempo songs. Kuldeep infuses a lot of energy and sings with gusto, which gives the performance a very lively feel. He enunciates the lyrics very clearly, doing full justice to the sahitya. The swaras in kamas and surutti were very catchy. So was the neraval at 'Vedantarthaboda chathuram velayudadharam' in the main piece. Mannargudi Easwaran, who spoke for a few minutes towards the end of the concert, appreciated Kuldeep's very fine rendition of Rasikapriya and said that he always sings well. Kuldeep developed Rasikapriya in ample time to give a wholesome picture. Choosing Surutti for the main piece was noted by one and all. It is not common to hear that raga as a main piece and even as a sub-main item, it does not seem to be used often, as far as my concert hearing experiences go. On the whole, well done to the singer and accompanists. Kuldeep is a young singer of promise. I look forward to hearing him in sabhas with better accoustics.

srutibedham,
I have heard kuldeep sing only about 15 to 20 minutes , a year or two back. Kuldeep has a strong voice. Also nice to hear rasikApriyA and shuruTTI as a main. R Raghul writes in the forum with the id violinlover ,he is a disciple of Shri MC, has nice shruthi sowkhyam. Infact violinlover (R Raghul)is one of the first violinist to sign up in the forum and write a lot
