From the application form for participation in the Chembai Sangeetholsavam:
"Only Hindus need apply. Children below the age of ten will not be allowed to participate in the Chembai Sangeetholsavam. The applicant must have at least three years training in Karnatic Music."

Well, that rules out KJY, child prodigies and swayambhu Carnatic vidwans!

Kerala strictly observes and enforces the rule that only Hindus can enter the temples in Kerala. So, don't bother pontificationg about the injustice of KJY not being allowed to sing at the Guruvayur temple. The musicians who participate are taken into the temple for darshan bypassing most of the crowds but not all of it..

The Chembai Sangeetholsavam coincides with the Guruvayur Ekadasi day and so the temple and the town get very crowded.

I think this artist is specially gifted - to play the violin and sing at the same time - pretty spectacular to watch and melodious too.

Rasika experts, including the composite harimau, may add insights on this special performance.

Recently I was told that Smt Ranjani Gayathri were playing violin while singing. But that seems to be that one was singing and another was playing violin.

Perhaps only they can try this special skill.
