Poorvi kalyani – it took some time for Sri. TNS to settle down and then came the point of no return:)…it was mInAkshi mE mUdam, highlighting the composer’s musical ingenuity in each turn of the phrases… the evening’s beguiling work, the neraval @ vInA gAna dasa gamaka kriyE came like a gradually moving aural landscape followed by kalpanaswarams tempered now and then by dynamic subtlety in the sedate pace before he tore through the melody in the propulsive faster pace bringing out the myriad colorings of the ragam - an ideal balance between virtuosity and introspection .. supported by Sri.sriram, sri. Dorai, and Sri. Subrahmanyam with some intense smooth playing...
Karaharapriya…
I have sort of conditioned myself to respect those moments of sparks of inspiration in TNS’s music… This waiting to savor the searching is all the more thrilling yielding its own rewards…and this is what happened in karaharapriya alapana… he peeled layers of it’s nucleus by weaving the melodic lines with his imagination wandering through the melodic cells of karnaranjani thru sruthi bedam… With elegant lyricism the neraval at “bAguga vinta rAgamula ..” came out with effortlessly spun phrases with one melodic phrase following another in a musical arc and gracefully glided between the octaves with melody floating over rhythms … the rendition was deceptively simple with some pert and lively thani by sri.guruvayur dorai and sri subrahmanyan…
Followed by the best coffee in town at the narada gana sabha canteen by their ever friendly crew at any time of the day…be it before thiruppavai discourse at 7 in the morning or after late night concerts…miss you guys badly :)
