I am not conversant with Sanskrit. Is there any significance in the change suggested by you as I have seen this change suggestion for the first time.

As you are aware, MD was a SrI vidyA upAsaka. SrI vidyA is a very vast subject by itself. You may refer to 'saundarya lahari' of Adi SankarAcArya. AvaraNa means an 'enclosure'. You may find a brief on the subject here - http://www.hindu.com/fr/2010/10/08/stor ... 130400.htm

The way you have written may be translated as New/Nine Elephant (vAraNam) or New/Nine Choice (varaNam); very different from the actual meaning that Govindan sir gave. If you had not split the word, then perhaps one could choose to read it correctly, still capitalized navA is better in the middle of the compound word.

AvaraNam- also means veil or covering; isn't it so?
In the Patanjali yOga sUtra, there is one sUtra which says,
'tatah kshIyatE prakASAvaraNam' meaning 'by the practice of prANAyAma, the veil of illusion covering the 'chitta' are removed. May be somebody knowledgeable can elaborate on this.
