Odi barayya reminded me of Radha Jayalaksmi rendition of the same song in 1980 at the same venue... absolutely no difference.
A concert of 110% bliss and sokhyam..
8th once was a kabir bhajan. (rama govinda) and a very rare managalam (in these days where pavamama has litrally replaced all mangalam songs )song jaya mangalam ( nadanamakriya )
An awesome concert missed by many .. poor attendance to this concert .

Hmm... my miss.. was in 2 minds - the fact that it was starting at 7:15 (according to the program list) put me off.
When I read the songlist - I too was reminded of RJ - who used to sing Odi barayya so beautifully.

Dear Manjunath Sir - Thanks a ton for a wonderful review that truly gave a feel of being in the concert itself. Amazing choice of presentations from Smt. VS that reveals sprinklers of her signature soveneirs from her rich, vast and diversified repertories. Every song listed by you adds up to the guilt of missing the concert due to inability to travel to Bangalore on a working day. I could comprehend the euphoric bliss that you may be going through and may that eternal feel last until you hear her live next time. God Bless.

Sundarnrao- I am happy that you could get a penpicture of the concert. I know that if u had attended this concert your review would have been poetic. In this forum Sir/Madam is not generally used.

Have been missing so many good concerts at FHS since the past two weeks. Even at this moment, I could be sitting at Abhishek's concert, instead I'm stuck at the comp!

The famous Fort High School in Bangalore (near to Bangalore Gayana Samaj) was the venue in which Ramanavami Music Concerts are held for almost more than a month every year. This is 73 rd year Celebrations. Every Stalwart & top ranking artists have performed here.MANI M DOCTOR wrote:It is sad that I missed Dr. Vijayalaxmi's concert. Very nice. Is her mother tongue Kannada? She sings it with a lot of ease and never refers to any notes, from what I have seen

Dr. VS is from Chennai and you can visit her web site for details.

I have had the pleasure/fortune of listening to her but this concert at Fort High School looks to me very special.

Superb concert, got to hear it on sangeethamshare. Would say that Smt. VS is having a tide turning 2011. She has always performed at a high level of quality, but that little extra spark was somewhat lacking in past concerts to me - hard to explain but for e.g. last year at the academy, I heard her Meenakshi memudham (trifle unfair considering Smt Suguna sang the same song early in the day with some scarcely believable yet top shelf bhaavam), and her Bhairavi/SindhuBhairavi RTP was such a let down for me, coz just when she was on the cusp of developing novel ideas after giving a hint of them, she would go back to a textbook sangathi. This concert was however, in a different class - the MMG and Karnataka Sudha Saveri especially - both beautifully and completely performed. Great to see her doing so well, she deserves to be in the top echelon - IMHO, musically, classically & repertoire-wise, she is many notches above her marquee women peers.
