Re: Bombay Jayasree's TTD Concert-Thyagaraja Swamy's Jayant
BJ was brilliant. She brings a contemplative , meditative mood also among the audience. Absolutely perfect sruthi alignment has become her trademark. No unnecessary brigas or gimmicks. She proves that if the bhava of the raga and the bhava of the composition are maintained with good sruthi, that itself would make an excellent concert. Varali, Ahiri and especially Reetigowlai were most enjoyable.
Ragam, swaram and neraval were brief to very brief. There is a popular perception that she sings in a light way. Probably she too wants to reinforce the perception. But I am aware (from a concert in Gayana Samaj in 2010) that she can rise her concert to a top class fully classical presentation with detailed and high quality manodharmam- R,N and S- retaining her basic hold on sruthi.
Undoubtedly the best among the three most popular lady vocalists.
