This is the fortune of gopi[yaShOda].SriPati is in the form of a baby[p]
She carries the lovely baby on her lap,combs and ties His hair into a pigtail,
decorates it with flowers.Quickly,she ties the lovely leaf of ficus made
of pearls,in enthusiasm.[c1]

She bathes the ever pure [nitya nirmala]puts Him on her lap,feeds him milk
She fondles Him,plays with Him in many ways,with warm affection,she swings Him.[c2]

Asssuming that He will catch the evil eye,she appllies sacred ash,performs arati
in a plate,Immediately she brings salt and neem,moves them around [to remove the
effect of the evil eye]she will lay Him in the cradle and swing Him.[c3]

She says,'Oh my gem,be quiet,the big boogy will come,do not cry,
Keep quiet.I will feed you my milk'.and swings the Father of Brahma.[c4]

She sings a lullaby. 'mADhava,jO maDhusUdana, jO the king of yadavas,SrIranga,
The Supreme,our purandara vittala',and with ardour she swings him.[c5] . [dasa varenyara kshame irali]

Savitri avare, I agree that purandaradAsaru gets the credit for the beautiful composition, but do not underestimate what you are doing - you are making the beauty of these lovely compositions apparent to those of us who do not understand kannaDA very well. When we read your translations, we appreciate the awesome capabilities of the composer, their use of language, their ability to marry dAtu and mAtu so well, but at the same time, we are indeed grateful to you for helping us understand a thing of beauty that we may never have appreciated otherwise. There is nothing more tragic than unappreciated beauty.
