Mohan, thanks. Sounds like a grand affair in Sydney, getting grander every year...
If you have the time, it would be great to get a detailed review from you.

Mohan - Thanks for pointing me to this post.

Sydney Music Festival was quite an experience being my first visit (hoping for many in the future).

Concert 1: Gayathri Girish, BU Ganeshprasad, Poongulam Subramaniam - Theme: Shanmatham - She presented songs on Ganesha, Shiva, Vishnu, Devi, Karthikeya and Surya. Will post details once I find my notes ;)
Her main was Sri Krishnam - Thodi.

Gurucharan's Kosalam - Kaa Guha - Koteeswara Iyer - rendering was equally outstanding. It set the tone for the weekend for me :) As Mohan commented, Mukhari was very well presented - the neraval/swarams were top class. Nagai Sriram's accompaniment was superb. It was nice to see the two of them enjoying each other's performances. At one point during Kosalam, I could see both Murugabhoopathy and Sriram pause and smile as Gurucharan was elaborating the raga.

Ravi Kiran - Hearing LIVE after many years and was satisfied. Am glad he was able to fit in a RTP though short and snappy.
Sanjay: was Sanjay! Need I say more!

My whinge: The organisers need to keep track of the timings of the local artiste performances in the morning. They started the day quite late (over 30 minutes easily) and then were struggling to get into the swing of things. It was disappointing that Ravi Kiran's performance had to be slashed down due to time. He was really going so well but had to keep watching the time.

Is Nagai Sriram related to Nagai Muralidharan? I have heard him play a few times and like his playing very much--though I haven't heard him play for Sanjay.

@arasi: Nagai Sriram is Nagai Muralidharan's nephew. I believe he has also learnt from him. Uncle and nephew are really top notch!!

khppriya,
Thanks. I vaguely remembered their being related but wasn't sure.
Look forward to listening to Nagai Sriram this season. Haven't heard him in a while. I imagine his chalanATa replies would have been very good, knowing whose disciple and nephew he is!

Ramanathan,
Seeing your pictures is almost like being there! You have the gift for capturing the musical moments in such a way which brings poignancy to the experience of music, even if we don't happen to be there. As always, thanks!
Patri would have won over many listeners--he's the most colorful looking one too! Gayatri Girish's namaskAram was pleasing to behold. Was glad to see you in one of the photographs, and all other performers too, of course.

@Ram: Super photos, as always! :) KVG and you seem to be competing in this regard.

Patri Satishji continues to wow me every time I hear him... There is a Youtube video where he accompanies Ganesh and Kumaresh at the Durbar Festival in 2009.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mzv-z8M3pqE

His anticipation of the swarams is particularly superb in this one.

Gayatri Girish's list is always impressive. Haven't heard that pUrvi kalyANi song of Sivan's.
Would love to hear that bhArati song during the season. Hope Gayatri will oblige. Sowram is a new rAgam to me!

Arasi - the song on the sun god was in dES...sauryam is the worship of the sun...the shaNmathas established by Sri Adi Sankara are gANapatyam (worship of gaNapati), Saivam (worship of Siva), vaishNavam (worship of vishNu), SAktam (worship of Sakti), kaumAram (worship of muruga), and saur(y)am (worship of the Sun god).

Ah, so, Ravi! Thanks for being the surya (not the rAgam but you, Ravi) in dispelling my ignorance in thinking that there's a rAgam in that name!

On his blog today, Sanjay made a comment on your quote from the Sydhwaney review. http://sanjaysub.blogspot.com/

It seems all roads of innovation in CM lead to TNS...

Actually the whole quote commencing from 'Instead of' is from me as the review writer is a close friend and wanted some comments on the technical aspects of the concert.

Jaya TV has broadcasted clippings from the previous years some of which can be found on youtube. 2011 if being done is likely to come after the cleveland clips which are being broadcasted at the moment.

Dear Rasikas
Just wanted to clarify the RTP was not a composition of Chitravina Ravikiran, it was an RTP in Shivasakti in Khanda jati triputa tala in Khanda nadai , as the theme was shakthi mahima and the ragamilaka had ragams like Dhanyasi Asaveri etc in tanam on request from audience n Durga and other ragams with devi names ..for ragamalika swarams.
We presented Ravikiran's pancha raga pancha tala tillana. We had Nagai Sriram and Tanjavur Murugaboopathi as part of our team.
