Yesterday there was a Lec-Dem on Subarayasastri son of Shyama sastri organised by Chennai Fine Arts @ Gogale Hall -Mylapore

Dr.VV.Srivatsa gave a total picture of the 10 + 1 krithi composed by Subaraya sastri
and emphasized that All are Hits.

After this Vijay Siva gave a excellent concert on Subaraya sastri krithies , His elaborate Bagada “Sangari nee “ was Reverberating and Thodi was brilliant .

Vital Ramamoorthy and Manoj gave a nice support

Just received the Great masters CD Vol 1 of Sri Voleti venkateswarlu. Unfortunately my friend forgot
the Vol2. The Vol1 CD has Sankari Neeve-Begada. The reviews of this CD always mentioned the NinneNamminaanu-Thodi or the Ahiri -maayamma. But the gem of the CD is Sankari Neeve. The aalaapana
is extremely soulful and draws your attention. The sangatis and swara kalpana, ofcourse, were superb as expected from Voleti. Vol2 has another gem of Subbaraya sastry in kalyani.

Sankari neevani is, in my opinion, the best Begada composition out there. The chittaswarams are just brilliant.

How can one obtain a copy of the above CDs of Voleti?

My friend bought it from Music World, banjara hills branch in Hyderabad. Music World has branches in Chennai, Bangalore too.
I tried to get it from Internet, but could not find a vendor whoc could sell me that, eventhough their web sites mention this set.

The other great piece in Vol 1 is the Vasata piece of Annamacharya Vaade Venkataadri.
I am really waiting for Vol2 for the Kalyani piece.

Srinidhi

Vijay Siva rendered the following Subaraya Sastri krithi
1.Meena Nayana – Darbar
2.Ninu Vina – Kalyani
3.Shankari – Begada
4.Emani-Bhairavi
5.Nanu Brochu- Thodi
6.Venkatasaila –

Sorry for the delay

As explained by V.V.Srivtsa Sankari nee is the brilliant composition in Begada used as reference to this Raga .
Janani in Reethegowla can be used as Abyasagana for mastering the raga by any musician.

Though I copied the link from the address box, for some strange reason it now leads to a different page within khazana. To go to the right page go to www.khazana.com and do a searçh with 'voleti''. This will direct u to the right page. Hope this helps.

I ordered this set in Khazana.com, but no confirmation of order came. They said, they can't deliver me this CD.
Best bet is buying in India (Rs125 per CD). Internet I had to fill the form for $30. After you hear the sankari rendering, I am sure, the rasika in you will be looking for more.
