On the occasion of the Bangalore arangetram of Akshay Anand (disciple of Vid Kalidas), a concert of Vid Neela Ramgopal, accompanied by Vid Charulatha Ramanujam on the violin and Master Akshay Anand on the mrudangam, would be held at Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, Banashankari, Bangalore on July 3rd at 6 PM.

neRanammitininayya - kAnaDa - aTa (varNam) - sketch
mahAgaNapatim - nATTai - Eka (MD) - sketch, S @ pallavi
sObillu saptasvara - jaganmOhini - rUpaka - T
kaDaikkaN vaittennai ALamma - bEgaDe - cApu - Ramaswamy Sivan - RS
bhOgIndra shAyinam - kuntaLavarALi - khaNDacApu - ST - R
munnu rAvaNa - tODi - mishrajhampa - T (RNST)
ERumayil ERi - hamsAnandi - khaNDa Adi - aruNagirinAthar
pavamAna sutuDu - saurAShTra - Adi - T
madhyamAvati sketch

It was a brilliant and lovely concert. I even liked the nATTai very much.

Another bEgaDe, just as fulfilling as the last. Unlike nIvErA kuladhanamu, this song plays with layam with many madhyamakAla passages.

There were some distractions during the tODi, and the audience seemed somewhat over-reactive to the tODi, which I find disturbing.

Smt Charulatha's support on the violin was just as good as ever.

Akshay's support for all krtis and manOdharma showed amazing anticipation. His tani showed a great "spaShTam" in his playing, every stroke clear. The kAlapramANa was maintained very well. The tani and featured lots of khaNDa naDai with some tishra in between -- I think there was some mishram in the beginning. However I found the tani a little too long, even taking into account that it was his aRangERRam.

Sri AV Anand, Sri Mysore Subramaniam and Sri Kalidas all gave elaborate addresses to the audience and their speeches were enlightening.

Best wishes to Akshay Anand and also L Subramanian, another disciple of Sri Kalidas's, who helped with adjustments to the mridangam during the concert. Sri Kalidas mentioned that L Subramanian's aRangERRam happened two years ago in a Ramakrishnan Murthy concert.

As you can see - there was variety in the talam. Adi came only at the end :)

Srikanth,
Good to know that you were in town to be at Gnaanam's concert. All choice pieces.Neela is 'gnaanam' personified.
Best wishes to Akshay!

Here is some additional informaiton on Akshays thani. He played a tatakaram composed by Guru Sri KSK during the initial phase of "chatusra Nadai" that is set in 3 kalam (Chatusram, Tisram and Chatusram mel kalam). The second part of the thani was set toTisra nadai where he played some vintage palani 10*3=30 akshara korvais and he concluded the Tisra nadai with 80 akshara korvai. The third part is set to Misra Nadai where he played some vitage palani's korvai's after playing some sarva laghu in Misram. The Mohra is set to Chatusra Nadai (10*4=40 aksharam) which is what KSK calls Palani's gem. He finishes with a final korvai in tisram that has 80 aksharam with each round being 26 2/3 aksharam (26 2/3*3=80).
