what a concert it was. The mastreo was in full flow. The only concession his age could extract out of him was sitting in a chair. He started with a brisk varnam in kanada, followed by gowlai. After a flashy harikambodhi with excleent swaras, came a masterly poorvi kalyani. The kriti paramapavanna was rendered in such a soulful way, the rasikas were simply transported to another world.A biref alapna of sri ranjani & sari evvare was follwed by a detailed alapana of ranjani and rare kriti (i have not heard it so far) in misra triputa talam. i was expecting the thani at this point but instead it was an outstanding abheri alapna, may be the best of the best of the day.the nadaswaram style sangathi's were out of the world. the kriti was bhajare re manasa followed by thani. After a lovely purandara dasar devranama , RKS ended with a brief slokam & mangalam.

All the alapanas were 2 part,first ny RKS followed by Ramkanth. Ramkanth was matched the mastreo in all aspects be it alapana,neraval or swaras. Nagai Murali follwed RKS like faithful student and his replies were great. Durai & TV Vasan played a very good thani, even though he was bit aggressive in palying to songs at times.

The minor drawback(if i can term it so) was the singing of Ramakanth during kritis. It was neither a duet nor vocal support but something in between resulting in a bit of disharmony particularly when RKS suddenly launches in to a few sangatis.

Definitely my concert of the year so far.

Pranamamyaham Sri Prananatham- A lovely song on Lord Anjaneya by Mysore Vasudevachar- Maharjapuram Santhanam has sung this song in a Commercial Recording ( Full Cassette is on Mysore Vasudevachar's Songs only).
