The Murals of Tiruvarur Temple

Post by cienu »

This is further to the concert review of Smt Smt Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam on 4th Sep 2011 at Kalakshetra Foundation.
Since the Tiruvarur Temple Murals discussion could cause a digression from the concert review, I decided to open a new thread in the lounge.

The links below give a fascinating insight as to how the murals have been saved for posterity.

there is something in Tamil written below the second picture that might possibly tell us about the story.

They are so beautiful...thanks Cienu...when I read Rajani's description of Sri Rajaram's efforts at photographing these murals, it reminded me of the paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine chapel. And with the restoration, I hope they'll follow the same pattern and leave a small area unrestored for a 'compare and contrast'!

Cienu, thanks for the wonderful links.
This is a fascinating topic. Perhaps this could be moved to General Discussions for higher visibility?
