Ramakrishna Murthy -- Vocal
Charulatha Ramanujam -- Violin
BC Manjunath - Mridanga
? -- Morsing
Incomplete list:
Nadopasana - Begada - RNST Nereval @Tantri laya swara
Short RTP --Hamsanada in Khanda triputa Ragamalika in Hindola, hamsadhwani, shudhdha saveri
matadabaradeno-- khamach
Govardhana Giridhara - Darbari kanada
Pavamana
Even as I was typing lines of a program with other code monkeys at 7:30 PM, got a text from a friend who was at the venue saying 'you musn't miss this one'.I showed up at the venue in 20 mins-- one of the joys of being in Mysore. I reached just in time for the main piece. and oh boy what a revelation this young chap is.Not sure he is 20 yet but this one is stalwart material. He sang an absolutely spellbinding Begada, with extremely aesthetic gamakas replete with rakti and bhava.I was completely bowled over.A few sangatis, I have heard only on instruments.I havent heard such a thorough exposition of this raga, dont think he left any facet untouched. Swara prastarams were spontaneous and aesthetic and shorn of math.
RTP was short-- due to paucity of time. Again, great raga bhava. Ragamalika swaras were sung with each new raga regressing ultimately to hamsanada. He was able to bring out good raga bhava even when he sang 1/4 avartha of swaras. Kamach piece was astounding-- again so much bhava-- it was sublime
BC manjunath-- who is the son of veteran percussionist BK Chandramouli , played very well. At certain points, the vocalists soft voice was drowned by the nada from the mridangam. Charulatha Ramanujam was ok.
I was kicking myself for skipping the first half of the concert, where he apparently sang todi(mahaganapathi).

That joy of reaching in 20 mins a venue is bringing a bit of Jealousy in me. BTW being a code Monkey you just had to beg your boss and leave the ada and reach in begada to just quench in nadopasanA. TX for the review, matterwaves and let them keep coming.matterwaves wrote: Nadopasana - Begada - RNST Nereval @Tantri laya swara

Thanks, Matterwaves. Sounds like a spontaneous and wonderful evening for you.
Ramakrishnan Murthy is an extremely talented vocalist. I had the pleasure of listening to him in Cleveland earlier this year. Here's wishing him a very successful musical career ahead!

Sreeni: That is my assumption. That is the Ramakrishnan Murthy (native of Irvine, CA) that I listened to in Cleveland.

Re: Ramakrishna Murthy@VV Mohalla Mysore
I believe he's recently moved from California to Chennai after finishing his undergraduate education to pursue music seriously.
