Lalitha and Nandini gave a wonderful thematic presentation of Devi Kshetra kritis for Hamsadwani NRI Festival last evening with a Multimedia presentation. They highlighted the different aspects of Devi, along with details pertaining to the temples they took.
They said that they took up not only songs pertaining to different kshetras but also sthalams and temples that have importance, hence they took up `Sarasiruha' on Saraswati and spoke about the Koothanur temple which is one of its kind for Goddess Saraswathi, Bhuvaneswariya on Pudukkottai for Goddess Bhuvaneswari. Lalitha and Nandini said that they had researched heavily on this project.
Here is the List
Sarasiruhasanapriye - Nattai - Adi - Puliyur Duraiswami Ayyar (R, S)
(Koothanur)
Annapurne - Sama - Adi - Muthuswamy Dikshitar
This was on Kuzhikkarai Sthalam. Nandini said that Dikshitar had composed the kriti Ehi Annapurani in Punnagavarali on Annapurani of Varanasi while this kriti in Sama is on the deity at Kuzhikkarai which is an ancient kshetra.
Kamakshi Swarajati - Bhairavi- Misra Chapu- Syama Shastry
Lalitha presented a Neat Bhairavi and the spoke on the Kanchipuram Kshetra.
Bhuvaneshwariya - Mohanakalyani - Adi - Harikesanallur Muthiya Bhagavathar. Though this song is not composed on Pudukkottai they said took up the sthalam Pudukottai since Bhuvaneswari is a presiding and prominent deity in Pudukkottai.
Panshat shat peeta - Deva gandharam - Adi - Muthuswami Dikshitar
Nandini gave a nice alapana here. (R, S). This was on Meenakshi of Madurai.
Karunai Deivame- Sindhubhairavi- Adi- Madurai Srinivasan
This is composed on the Thirumylai sthalam and the presiding deity is Karpagambikai. The composer they said is the Mridangist Chinna Kutti.
At the end of the concert one could hear the rasikas saying that the sisters possess vidwat and innovative ideas.
Very informative + enjoyable concert.

The above is a bit confusing! Who is the composer - Madurai Srinivasan or Chinna Kutti?Karunai Deivame- Sindhubhairavi- Adi- Madurai Srinivasan
This is composed on the Thirumylai sthalam and the presiding deity is Karpagambikai. The composer they said is the Mridangist Chinna Kutti.
(I'd always thought it was Madurai Srinivasan.)
I fully agree. Lalitha/Nandini are easily the best in their category. At the end of the concert one could hear the rasikas saying that the sisters possess vidwat and innovative ideas.

Heard the sisters say in the concert that the song Karunai Deivame is composed by Madurai Srinivasan (who is a Mridangist and is popularly known as Chinna Kutti in the music field)
Meanwhile bought the Live concert DVD of Devi Kshetra Kritis by the sisters - excellent rendition of compositions by the Duo. Feature compositions on Chidambharam, Thirunelveli, Kanchipuram, Madurai, Thiruvaiyaru, Pudukkottai, Thirumylai by different composers. Well done duo.
