Abhishek Raghuaram- Oct.16th Miami concert
Abhishek Raghuram concert at the Shiva Vishnu Temple in Miami on Oct.16th,2011
Abhishek Raghuram- vocal
Vittal Ramamurthy- violin
Ananthakrishnan –mridangam
Song list
1. Nada Tanumanisam – Chittaranjani, Thyagaraja
2. Soorya Murthe- sourashtram- Dikshitar
3. Manasuloni- Hindolam- Thyagaraja
4. Cheta Sri- Dwijavanthi- Dikshitar
5. Koluvai yunnade- Devagandhari- Thyagaraja
6. Sri Krishnam- Todi- Dikshitar
7. Chandra chooda –Darbari kanada- Purandara Dasa
8. Manadhirkkukandadu- Sindhu Bhairavi- Tanjore Sankara Iyer
9. Enna Tavam seidanai – kapi- Papanasam Sivan
10. Patiki harati- surati ending with Pavamana
The concert started around 4:30 p.m. instead of 4 p.m. as shown. Artists were there on time, but for some reason it started late. The young artist has a very good voice and sound knowledge of music. The brigas came easy for him. There was a short alapana in Sourashtram, before Soorya murthe .He must have chosen that song, that being a Sunday. The Hindola alapana was detailed. He had some new ‘pidis’ and nice swaras. Dwijavanthi alapana was excellent and the violinist also played extremely well. Instead of the usual ‘Akhilandeswari’, he sang ‘chetha sri Balakrishnam’. The Devagandhari alapana was not long, but good. Todi was the main- He did not sing a RTP. Todi alapana was extensive , showing the raga lakshana and more. He started the song with Paga sasanadhi instead of Sri Krishnam, which was pleasant. The mridangam artist had the ‘Tani’ which was good. He played well and not too loud to drown the artist. The next one which I have not heard before was a Purandara Dasa kriti in Darbari Kanada, which was melodious. He did the raga alapana for this which was very pleasing. I think, I like his Hindustani ragas more. He has the easy flow and does not sing the ragas in a harsh way. Abhishek sometimes reminded me of the great Madurai Mani singing the swarams which kept coming out like a waterfall . When I listened to him on the You Tube, his voice seemed very low, but in person it was not.
Sindhu Bhairavi as usual was lilting. His voice could traverse all the sthayees. He started the Kapi song ‘Enna Tavam’ from “kayyil endi’instead of the pallavi.
He ended with Surati followed by ‘pavamana’ which was refreshing.
On the whole, this artist has a wonderful future and will go much further. For his age, he has mastered so much and will learn more every day with maturity. It was a good concert and the accompanying artists co-operated well with him. They didn’t try to overwhelm him, but went along with him. All in all It was a good concert and we enjoyed the concert. Because of the pouring rain, some people came late, and had to leave early.
p.s. Please feel free to add or correct anything I missed or any mistake I made.

thanks for the write-up, Maduraimini. Very nice song list. It has been years since I heard koluvai unnAdE in DevagAndhAri!
I'm impressed by how many tOdi kritis Abhishek seems to have mastered.

Thank you, Shankar and Mahavishnu. Ravi, The Shiva Vishnu Temple in Miami is in place called Davie near Miami. It is a small, but nice temple with South Indian priests. South Indians of Southern Florida go there to do their poojas and other things. The temple has Shiva , Venkateswara, Ganesa, Subramania ,Andal,Ayyappan ,Saraswathi, Mahalakshmi, Durga, Krishna, Rama,Sita and Hanuman and navagrahas. The Main Deities are Shiva and Balaji. It has a small separate cafetaria cum store room when you enter, where the priest does special rituals for people who come there. The temple is in the middle with nice trees and greenery. Behind the temple is the auditorium, where they have the concerts and other functions. With the nice Florida weather, the temple is serene and inviting.

Shankar,
Please do go to the temple and I am sure you would enjoy the visit. They do close in the afternoon and open after 5:30 p.m., I guess. You can call the temple and make sure they are open. It is near Fort Lauderdale. I wish I lived nearby so I can also come and see you. After reading your posts for so long , it seems I know you. If you don't mind the distance, I would be more than happy to make you lunch or dinner, if you let me know beforehand.
