Clarification on my identity

Post by rasika1962 »

Dear Fellow Carnatic music performers and Rasikas,
I am relatively a new member to this forum and my name is Balasubramanian, living in Singapore (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000044959886). I would like to clarify that I am not the member "bala747", who has been writing reviews in this forum. I felt compelled to clarify it here because I got to know that some musicians and rasika friends of mine were guessing that bala747 is me.

Coming back from the thread on which you made your other post, I can only ask...

Why?

But... oh, never mind!

Hi Nick,
I just posted this clarification since my name also starts as 'bala'. In fact, some music friends of friends asked if I am the one posting as bala747. For those of you familiar with him, this might appear weird. But since the question arised.....
Cheers

It's clear now.
Singapore is not a big country. Those who go to CM concerts are not that many. Some know that a bala747 has written reviews on Rasikas.org. A concert goer when you are introduced as Balasubramanian who reads Rasikas.org reviews immediately asks: ah! So you are the Bala who writes reviews on Singapore concerts? Simple.
Bilahari might say, there are quite a number of Balas in Singapore who like CM.

Welcome to Rasikas.org.

Singapore is a country where Tamil is one of the majority languages, and I would be surprised not to find many a "Bala" among its residents!
some music friends of friends asked if I am the one posting as bala74
Sounds like it is them you need to tell, not us.

But never mind... welcome to the site anyway.

Unnecessary clarification for someone with all of five posts.

As Nick says, you just need to tell these friends who are enquiring.

By the way, our GBL is also a Balasubramaniam and visits Singapore occasionally. Perhaps he should also clarify that he is not Bala747.

Now the "clarification" (clear as mud, some say) is done, I wonder if he'll stick around? Maybe post some reviews?

As stressed: all are welcome!

I like the idea of rasika1962 to participate in the activities of rasikas such as reviews, comments and contributions to this august group, now that rasika1962 has clarified his identity.

Folks, let it go. We are mocking/treating rasika1962 like one of the usual anonymous trouble makers. That is not a way to welcome someone new. He provided his face book page for good measure. Yes, a bit unusual, but given the 'unique' reputation bala747 has in this forum, I do not see why he wants to make sure he is not him ;) Now, why anyone will think that rasika1962 id is same as bala747 is beyond me, especially when his post was challenging some aspects of bala727's post. Only rasika1962 knows. I assume there were some off-line reasons.

rasika1962, I suggest you introduce yourself in the Welcome to new Members therad and provide your details. We can then delete this thread.

Thanks Vasanthakokilam. I did not notice the Welcome to New members thread. Just now saw after seeing your suggestion. Yes, I should have done that and it is not my intention to create a new thread. Anyway, I really got a "warm" welcome. Thanks guys. Pls. delete this thread.
Let me do one last time the reason for my clarification. Some of my music friends have been asked by some musicians or their friends whether I am the one in this forum with the id bala747, because they know me as Bala. In fact, I have another music lover friend here with my name and people have asked him also whether he is the one who wrote some of the reviews, which were actually posted by bala747.

Does this forum provide a way of knowing who is behind the user id here? Of course, one can make a good guess if we look thro' his sequence of postings. But is there a direct way?

WIth this thread almost going to be gone , just a tiny bit of advice you donot have to give your facebook profile and tie this to your profile here in your introductory welcome thread that you are about to post, this family-friendship-office relationship profile of facebook and rasikas tieup is bit too risky to tie up.

Warm Welcome Balasubramanian !!!

As on many forums, it is up to each member to choose a name that reflects their own name, or a "handle" which can be anything they choose. There is no way to probe, nor should there be.

There is a facility to send email to another member*. You can enquire their identity direct, if you are desperate to know. Of course, they do not have to answer. There are many simple and practical reasons not to spread one's identity all over the internet. I, for one, wish that I had not done so --- but it's a bit late now :)
