8.TillAnA – dEsh – LGJ

9.mangalam

It was a concert that was rich in classicism from start to finish which was assured by the very first phrase in asAvEri in the masculine, assertive, sonorous and deep voice of S.P.Ramh.Why so many adjectives? One may ask. What to do? It is required here.

Ramh unleashed his maNodharmam on all possible areas. The pallavi in tathvamariya had about 20 sangathis,I didn’t count any way. The eduppu suggested kEdhara gowlai but the subsequent phrase confirmed bilahari. While I thought Bilahari is already exhausted yet sweet to hear, he prooved me wrong by singing some sangathis which I have never heard before.LVL dazzled too.Her version brought out still newer sangathis. On the whole it was a great team effort where the artist was enjoying the other’s performance while being involved with their own.

The main was usual but niraval at manasoona a bit unusual which was very short lived. He started singing svarams at the end of the third improvisation itself due to paucity of time. It was a 2 hrs.concert from 7 – 9 p.m.

Ethnai kOdi was sung with gusto.Same with the other BharatiyAr song and thillAnA.

The percussion duo performed beautifully supporting the main artist totally. A neat job.

Folks,if you are really looking for a performance with pristine classicism pl.listen to this artist at least once.

It is good to see a review for a Ramh's concert. He is a real classical muiscian no doubt.

I saw Bombay sisters singing "eththani kodi inbam' song in a TV channel recently. They sang 'chithinai achithudan inaithai' as 'shiththinai ashiththudan..'-thank god they didn't pronounce it the English way.How for some who have spent a good no.of years in Bombay murdering sanskrit comes so easily !

S.P.Ramh should be specially lauded for his clear diction of any language.

Am trying to decode this. How is the sruti holding up in the voice? Last time I heard him there were some major problems.

It was perfect and sharply aligned at all octaves.I should say such a 'azutham' in voice I am hearing only after DKJ.
