Shambanum Shyamalanum- By Smt. Sudha Ragunathan for Jaya TV Dec 10 2011

Accompaniments : Sri. Pakkala Ramdass (Violin)
Sri. Tiruvarur Vaidhyanathan (Mridangam)
Sri. R Raman (Mohrsing)
Sri. M R Narayanan (Tambura)

As the title suggests even i thought it is going to be a concert with Sivan and Vishnu krithis. But it was not so ..Kudos to her for taking the theme to a different perspective of kshetra payanam. She took some specific Kshetrams where both Siva and Vishnu resides and sung the glory of both of them through the krithis of Various vageyakkaras.

She started off with "Maa Ramanan Uma Ramanan" krithi of Papanasam Sivan in the Raga Hindholam which is apt for this title. She reiterated the benefits of praying the lord Maa Ramanan (Vishnu) and Uma Ramanan (Sivan). Next she moved on to,

1. Chidambaram

a.For Shamban she sang - Idathu patham thooki - Kamas - Adi - Papanasam Sivan

b.For Shyamalan on the Lord Govindarajan-- Tirumangai Aazhwar Paasurams in Kaanada and Hamsanandhi (Serithavach cembugan thannai (kaanada) and Andra sarasarangalai vaikunthathethi (Hamsanandhi)

2. Trivandrum

a.Paramananda Natanam - Kedaram - Adi - Swati Tirunal (S). This Krithi is composed on Srikanteswarar.
She sang rounds of beautiful swarams with some calculations which she explained later.

b. Pankajaaksha Pahi Pahi - Sindhu Bhairavi - Adi - Thulasivanam on the deity Anantha padmanabhan

3. Trichy

For this Place She took up Tiruvaanaikovil and Srirangam

Tiruvaanaikkovil
a. Tiruganana Sambandar (Tirukadaikkappu) - Aanaikkavil Venmathi - Bhairavi

Srirangam
a. Ranganatham Aneesham - Gambira Nattai- Oothukkadu
This was beautifully executed by her as This is a unique composition by this great composer Composed in the Saptaratna Style. It has six charanams five of them renderable as madhyamakala swara and sahithyam

b. Tiruvaazha Tiru Aazhi Sangam Vaazha - Ragamalika - Pillai Perumal Iyengar
An Oonjal song on Lord Ranganatha and Ranganayaki Which is being sung in the temple even nowadays.

This songs was very moving and the people totally enjoyed by swaying to her music.

4. Mayiladuthurai

She sang on the Deity Maayuranaathar and Parimala Rangan of TiruIndaloor.

1. Maayura Natham - Dhanyasi - Misra Capu - Dikshitar (R,N)
2. Parimala Ranganatham - Hamirkalyani - Rupakam - Dikshitar

5. Kanchipuram

a. Virutham on Ekambareshwarar From Pattinathar's Tiruvegambamaalai ..Kallap pizhayum and Oorum Satham alla beautifully sung in Kambodhi and Varali

b Then she took up Kannara Kandena - Varali - Adi - Purandaradasar (S,T) (praising the Lord Varadaraja )

After the Q&A Session, she said she had some more kshetrams to cover up and since it was the day of Grahanam(eclipse) people might have to go home early to have their dinner and hence we are concluding with the Mamava Pattabhirama and Mangalam.

Later Asked why she sang Mamava Pattabhirama for which she disclosed it was the Shyamalan-Krithi for the Tiruvayyaru Kshetram where Dikshitar has sung this krithi @ Thyagaraja's residence seeing Thyagaraja's Ramar. She Said she planned to sing Evarunnaru in the Raga Malavasri composed by Thyagaraja praising the deity Shiva called as Panchanadisvarar at Tiruvayyaru.

The Mangalam was unique containing the words which describes both sivan and vishnu.

Overall it was a great show from this great Vidushi!

There is another song on thillai natarajar and govindarajan, I forget the opening lines and the ragam. It is like the song'mAramanan', talking about both the gods.

Yes, that is the song. What ragam is it in? I have heard Ranjani -Gayatri sing in FAS,Chembur,Mumbai. In fact I wrote down the whole song in a piece of paper, but lost it. :(.
It must have been an apt one here- a 'two -in -one' to say.

Actually, the title was "Shyamalanum Shaambanum".

Considering that Neyveli Santhanagopalan's theme was "Naathanum Naamamum", Jaya-TV missed an opportunity to call this "Naamamum Naathanum". ;)
