Nada Inbam, Ragasudha Hall
Gayatri Vengatraghavan - Vocal
RK Sriramkumar - Violin
K Arunprakash - Mridangam
BS Purushottaman - Kanjira
sami ninne kori (varnam) - sri - adi - karur devudu iyer
two speed till mukthaiswaram and in 2nd kalam for the charanam & chittai swarams. guess sri raga varnam wilN never
fail to perk up a concert and it indeed did so here.
viruttam followed by sambho mahadeva - bowli - m chapu - neelakanta sivan
standard fare.. she brought out bowli clearly in the first phrase
marivere dikkevaru - lathangi - adi - patnam subramania iyer (RS)
have to pat myself in the back definitely here. while last year I thot it is half pantuvarali and half kalyani, no
such confusion. was able to clearly identify the raga as latangi and enjoyed it.
harihara putram - vasantha - rupakam - dikshitar (RS@harihara)
IMO, this should become a text book for those that want to learn vasantha and this song. expansive alapana and a slow song made for
a meditative experience. Sung swaras in lower speed and then couple of avarthanas in second speed.
srikanta neeyada - bhavapriya - adi - thyagaraja (S)
guess she caught a tailwind, the song took off in jetspeed in total contrast to the vasantha. very good short
avarta swaras rounded off this one
satatam tavaka pada sevanam - karaharapriya - adi - swati tirunal (RNS@mama hrdi vasAnisham madhusUdana shaurE, T)
superb alapana - took 20 mins for vocal + violin. was apprehensive that it would be chakkani or rama nee samanamevaru and was rooting
for anything else - nadaci nadaci or pakkala nilabadi or paramukham or srinivasa. She started a song that I have
never heard before - not even in a recording. Fantastic neraval including tisram and swarams followed by a very short
tani - 10 mins. Of the overall 1:05, 55 min was for raga essay and the song.
Akiyan - ?? - Adi - Surdas
the song has Surdas in the lyrics. Nothing to write home about.
Villinai otha - ?? - Adi - Bharathiar
The evergreen one in a different gait.
Matha Parasakthi indha - ?? - Adi - Bharathiar
Pavamana - Madyamavathi - Adi - Thyagaraja
RKSK was superb on the violin. He deserves to be appreciated all the more given that he is not continuing the earlier
tradition of top notch violinists not accompanying female singers. The give and take between him and Gayatri was
something to see and believe. Only thing I noticed is that the sound was a little harsh especially in the thara sthayi;
may be he has tuned his violin to a higher sruti to match GV?
Percussion department was handled by K Arun Prakash & BS Purushottaman very well.
Damn Gayatri V! She has put me in a dilemma now - Should I go to Vijay Siva or choose Gayatri V again on 16th? The concert was that good!
She has set the bar very high with this gem of a concert today. Hope Nada Inbam has recorded this one and will come
out as a concert so those that missed it can get a glimpse of today's brilliance. Scored y'day with Sanjay (alternative
was TM Krishna) and today with Gayatri V (alternative was Ranjani Gayatri).
One observation - KA's mridangam sound was not pure thom/nom kind of affair as was Mannargudi Sir's y'day. Forgot
to note that Mannargudi Sir's mridangam sounds far better than others. Any difference in tuning/the mridangam itself?
