Different Slokas

Post by laya2 »

Hi,

I am sure many of you have gone through this website of Prayathnam. It talks about the Syllabus for Bharatnatyam framed by the members of Prayathnam.

http://prayathnamgroup.blogspot.com/200 ... labus.html

In each level it talks about Slokas. There may be some who may not know the different kinds of slokas which they have mentioned. It would be great if somebody could talk about the Slokas.

First I would like to know what is Dhyna Sloka and Bhumidevi Sloka. Kindly help.

thanks.

Dhyana shloka or meditation verse describes the form of God or Goddess.
It's up to the particular deity that shloka refers to.

For Bhumidevi shloka, this one is the most popular :
samudravasanE devi parvatastanamaNDalE |
viSHNupatni namastubhyaM pAdasparshaM kSHamasvamE ||

My translation :
Salutation to you, Goddess Bhumi the consort of Lord Vishnu !
Who has ocean as robes and mountain as bosom.
Please forgive me for touching you with my feet.
