Fabulous Concert !! Felt good to hear the Navaragamalika Varnam Inta Kopa. Today both the brothers were in top form ! Ganesh's surutti was highly pleasing. They had interesting swara exchanges with Mysore Srikanth in the Surutti kriti. Needless to say about Ravikiran's Rasikapriya kriti ! Shashikiran's Varamu was absolutely melodious to listen to. He sang the raga with so much ease and comfort. Ganesh sang a contrasting Begada Thanam, followed by Srikanth playing Kapi. Ganesh also sang these ragams in reverse and concluded with Varamu. Srimushnam Raja Rao accompanied for the Thanam and said that it was a tradition followed in Kerala.

The pallavi lines were.. "varuvaay mayilai karpagame varam unadhai arulave"...with "varamunadhai" having the raga mudhra. Shashikiran explained about the multi speed yati patterns and also sang them.(4 3 2 1 1 2 3 4). They sang swarams in different edupus and speeds. Ragamalika swaras was based on the "shuddha" theme. Karnataka Suddha saveri was sung by Shashikiran, Suddha Danyasi by Srikanth and Suddha Bangala by Ganesh. Finally Ganesh sang these ragams in reverse and concluded. Thani avardanam was superb... Srimushnam Raja Rao and EM Subramaniam did a great job. The post main section had few interesting compositions like the thirupugazh and the javali. Overall a well appreciated concert !

The mikes were playing up in this concert and persisted into the evening concert as well. The varnam to begin was new to me and I hope someone knowledgeable will shed some light on it. Ravi Kiran's Rasikapriya was beautiful ( I can see why he needed the year off  ) and the duo sang it well too. The highlight of the evening was the RTP in Varamu. Shashikiran sang a leisurely Varamu alapana and thanam which was beautifully replied by Mysore Shrikanth. Ganesh picked up the thanam with Begada and they switched ragams as mentioned by the original post. The 2 Varamus I heard-the brisk one by Dr Pantula Rama and the slow, well-defined by Shri Shashikiran was like a full lesson on how to handle the ragam. Nice. ;) The Javali Samayamithe in Behag was sung in honour of Smt T. Brinda and had all the kozhaivu of the school. Scholarly concert!

It would be one of these three (maybe it is the same song attributed to three different composers):

Inta kopamelara intipaini sami niku (tv), Vinai Kuppier
Inta kopamelara mayintipaini sami niku (tv), Vinai Venkatramanadas(or)
Inta kopamelara mayintipaini sami niku (tv) ,Kalahsti Venkatasami Raju

samayamidE rA rA is by Patnam Subramania Iyer.
