Gayatri Vengatraghavan - Vocal
BU Ganeshprasad - Violin
Neyveli Narayanan - Mridangam
KV Gopalakrishnan - Khanjira

Varnam - Navaragamalika - Adi - Kothavasal Venkatrama Iyer
Deva Deva - Mayamalavagowlai - Rupaka - Swati Tirunal (NS@bhuvana thraya)
Mayamma Nannu Brovavamma - Nattakurinji - Adi - Shyama Sastri (RS)
Nambikkettavar evarayya - Hindolam - Adi - Papanasam Sivan
Seethamma - Vasantha - Adi - Thyagaraja
Emi Jesithemi - Thodi - M Chapu - Thyagaraja (RS@vara thyagaraja, T)
RTP (Paramananda Amruthavarshini Parameswari Anandabhairavi) - Amruthavarshini & AnandaBhairavi - K Triputa - including anuloman, pratilomam, tisram, ragamalika swaras in Sriranjani, Hamsadhwani, Abogi?, Hindolam?. Tanam was with mridangam/khanjira accompaniment and was certainly very lovely. Especially the Khanjira/Violin combo during tanam was wonderful.
Muralidhara Gopala - Mand - Adi - ??
Viruttam followed by Vellai tamarai - Bhimplas - Adi - Bharathiar
Meera Bhajan [update]Bajathu guruve?[/update]

Words simply fail to convey the awesome goodness that was today's GV's concert, so I am not going to try. Especially of Nattakurinji, Thodi & RTP, things that are going to linger in ones mind for quite some time and then some. One should have been there to have felt the sheer joy of these 3 numbers. The Nattakurinji was such a rare treat . Slow and soulful.

All the other artistes did very well. Percussion throughout & Tani was very good. Nattakurinji - the accompaniment was wonderful and enhanced the overall experience.

To the team -    I am :| & :D

One thing - Are Bhimplas & Karnataka Devagandhari one and the same? When she sang the viruttam - I thought it was KD as the phrases sounded similar to "Eppadi Padinaro" which is usually put under KD.

Thank you for the post.

Interestingly, GV sang the same exact pallavi (and raga) combination when she performed in Cary, NC as well. The ragamalika is of course different.

You can find at this website the composer of Muralidhara

According to Madurai Sri GS Mani, as sung now-a-days, bhImplAs/bhImplAsi, AbhEri and karnATaka dEvagAndhAri are probably the same!

I am a new member to the forum. I am not a reviewer and registered to mention about this concert, however I find it hasd already been reviewed; glad to know. As the reviewer says, the concert was extraordinarily good! This is the first time I am listening to this artist after a long time and she gave a superb performance.

Niraval and kalpanaswaram for deva deva at the unusual place was full of bhava. The todi raga alapana was beyond words. She ran short of time during the song but the rtp she gave later on clarified why. She sang alternate phrases in the 2 ragas with so much ease and clarity. The pallavi speeds were sung beautifully and so was the thanam. After the concert, I heard somebody remarking '3.5 hours ponadhe theriyale!' Wondering how such artists haven't got the publicity they deserve! I will be keen to listen to GV again when I get the chance.

I have heard the original version by TKR accompanied by MSA in a Bomaby kutcheri recording. That was available with one Mr.SAmbasivam in Luz avenue.

Has any one recorded this concert...if so kindly share the same with me. Looks like a mind boggling concert. I have a couple of excellent concerts of Smt.Gayathri Venkataraghavan.

If any rasika is interested to have a copy can get in touch with me @ [email protected]
