R Suryaprakash - Vocal
MA Sundareswaran - Violin
Mannargudi Eswaran - Mridangam
Alathur T Rajaganesh - Khanjira

Subramanyena Rakshitoham - Suddha Dhanyasi - Adi - D (S) - I walked in as he was wrapping it up. Traffic held me near Azhawarpet signal because of the crowd in the Anjaneyar temple on account of Hanuman Jayanthi
Nidu moortini - Nattakurinji - Adi - Pallavi Gopala Iyer(R)
Paratpara - Vachaspati - Adi - Papanasam Sivan (started at anupallavi Surasurar thozhum, S)
Sri Krishnam - Thodi - Adi - Dikshitar (RNS@shanka chanka T)
Viruththam in Kedaragowlai, Hamirkalyani, Gorakkalyan (thenpazhani velavane)
Aj Aye - Yamankalyan - Ata?- Swati Tirunal (the last two lines of lyrics were exactly the same as ST's dhansri Tillana).. Discussion about this available @ http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7277 ... hajan.html
Pahi Rama Dhoota - Vasantavarali - Adi - Thyagaraja

Very sparsely attended concert (20% of MFAC capacity) and for a very good reason IMO. It is intoxicating music and people should indeed choose to be away so they don't get intoxicated now and then. Just 2 hours felt very small a window, it should have been a 3 hour atleast and I believe RS would have continued with the same level of energy. Thats all. Wonderful beautiful percussion support - especially for the Thodi masterpiece mridangam caressed each and every phrase/avartanam. Rajaganesh was matching up to the veteran and sound of his Khanjira itself was very unique.
[update]I have been remiss in not mentioning MAS - he was v good to excellent as usual, his 8 min response to 18 min Thodi of RS was even better IMO :)[/update]

One thing I remember vividly - when he was elaborating thodi Sri Krishnam immediately sprang to my mind - no other thodi song - karthikeya or dasarathi or emi jesithemi or kamalambike or raju vedala or koluva maragatha or karunanidhi ilalo or ninne namminanu or thaye yasodha - the songs in thodi that I have heard so far. So now I get what people say when an alapana is patterned after the song to follow it. Karunanidhi ilalo - I have heard only once I think - Vijay Siva couple 2 years ago in a temple concert in Nungambakkam. Would that and other songs be lost for ever - seems this season has a paucity of Shyama numbers.

Nidu Moorthini - nAttaikurinji is by pallavi gopala Iyer . I also remember some time there was a discussion that this song is also attributed to patnam.?
Was parAtparA in vachAspathi filler with explosive swaras or was that a submain like. I would be interested to hear if it is former as at times he sings quite rare fillers.

On a non-musical note, I think the quality of MFAC canteen is not good. I got stomach sick after having a dosa there.
Best seems Gnanambika @ NGS, but it is quite pricey. But, I do not mind the price for quality :-)

rbharath - work day:morning concert :: oil:water :( sigh.

rajeshnat - paratpara was not submain like as in it had shortened rns, but it had quite a good round of swaras indeed. I chose to attend this one purely because of your raving here about RS here in this forum. Else I would have gone to MA for RK Srikantan y'day. Before y'day I had only heard him live once in Gopalapuram Krishnan Temple about 3 - 4 years ago. So, a big thanks to you.

I was there at that concert. I think it was probably the best or the second best concert that I attended this season. The combine worked very well. RS is a creative and gifted artist. That two senior artists chose to accompany him testifies to that. I hope he is given longer duration and prime slots in the coming season.
