Krishna has accompanied his father umpteen times, and whenever given the chance for a bit of swaraprasthara / raga alapana, proved the adage 'pulikkupiranthathu poonaiyaguma'. And in the one solo concert of his that I attended last year at Papanasam Sivan Sabha, Madipakkam, he did brilliantly. I still remember the ringing Mohanam (rA rA rAjIva lOchana.) So I was wondering, why isn't he getting the prime slots. I got the answer today. The speed, daring, technical ability, all hallmarks of his dad, were all there, but the soukhyam was missing. And it must be said, another thing he has inherited is the occasional sruti lapses.
A strange thing in this concert - look at the total lack of variety in raga selection - except for madhyamavati, all other ragas seem to be similar in mood. Almost like a thematic concert!
Accompanists did a fine job. Especially pleasing was Sivakumar's pantuvarali.
I hope I will soon get to hear much better concert from Krishna in the days to come.
