Dhrushti of 2012 - At music academy

Post by nrvraman »

Sums(k) Rhythm....live by ghatam karthick (he didnt touch ghatam at all).

He Was talking (he thought he was singing) all through.

Grand "avamariathai" for shankaran sir and sivaraman sir by him.

MA should screen such programs before getting them on stage.

more to come.....

Concert started 15 minutes late due to extended Sangeetha Kalanidhi function.

Sams(k)Rhythm started with Tha.The.Thom.Num the basic sollu format of any rhythm instrument. The team failed miserably in the basic concept itself. There was total lack of co-ordination and concentration from the mridangist and Karthick

Mallari : For a minute I thought I entered into a place where “Kathaa - kalakshepam” was going on. Thanks to Karthick for reminding me by starting off with his version of Mallari in “Kambeera Nattai”. Again thanks to karthick for telling the name of the Ragam before he started talking. Oopps Sorry “singing”.

Note : There was nothing related to rhythm during the first 25 minutes of the program.

Mudakaratha modakam : “Recited” the slokam in Sanskrit and tamil and for every stanza korvais were played for “Chatusram Ekam Atheetham 2 Edam” by the kanjeera artiste Kvg. I am voluntarily omitting mridangist name as it was not worth mentioning the same. If someone entered the hall during the start of this item, forsure they would have expected “Deepa Aradhanai”. Vibhudi and Kozhakatti prasadham as it sounded like a Ganapathi homam.

Vai Jaalam : To be precise, It was only “speech”and nothing in “action”. I request 5 members from Rasikas.org to sit and recite the syllables corresponding for 4,5,6,7 & 9 together by putting talam for their nadais respectively and few members to listen to the same. Such was the effect. You cant explain things that are way too good or “the other way round”.
To keep it simple, Rasikas are not coming to the concert to hear cacophony.

Layam tuned in Kharaharapriaya: Karthick gave full justification for the ragam “Kharaharapriaya”. No doubt he has such a Kara Kara Voice and aptly selected this ragam. Leave alone melody, the highlight of this item was “Avalayam” and nothing else. I dont know what happened after that.

Karthick was talking through out the concert either about saying namaskaram to Sivaraman sir or Sankaran sir or telling the audience that Guitar Prasanna's relative is sitting and someone from xyz family had come to the concert. The current generation “young-musicians” have guts to sit on stage and do whatever they want just because there is no one to question them.

Sums(k)rhythm - A bad Samskaram for Carnatic music fraternity

Well said nrvraman. I do have a doubt. Karthick announced that there was no melody form or instruments present on the stage. But he sang the whole time. What is vocal music ? is it melody or a percussion form? I am confused. Can any one please clarify my doubt?

"He Was talking (he thought he was singing) all through."

Since he was talking it is definetly not melody.. as he was only saying namaskarams to senior vidwans...may be it was percussion form if it was done at predefined intervals?
