Really enjoyed this rare recording. Even if this rendition does not qualify with the purists, I simply loved the premajUcii nApai neraval very much.

I am a lover of TMS esp.when he sings for my favourite Sivaji Ganesan.TMS is A graded in AIR and I have listened to his concerts accompanied by Kovai Dhakshinamurty and another concert by MAK where he sang 'manasai svAdheenamaina' in S'bharanam.I have heard this kriti in dEvamanOhari(ramanathapuram poochi Iyengar?'s)by him with svarams.RamananubrOvarA in HK,etc.

I heard from Viswa Sir (T.Viswanathan) that TMS is a student of Sangita Kalanidhi Thirupambaram Swaminatha Pillai and was a good carnatic singer. Family situation and economic needs forced him to take up cinema music. Once some went to Thirupambaram Swaminatha Pillai and said something to the effect of " Look what you student is doing.. singing cinema music" the response was "If you can arrange funds for him and the well being of his family, he will quit right now an pursue pure carnatic music.. can you? " The rest is history...

Wow... I like TSP's answer. That applies to everyone who complains about commercialism of carnatic music and about musicians wanting to make money. I always found that to be very hypocritical on the part of the complainer.

- Poincare, I heard the same incident from someone else as well.
- ganeshkant: It is wonderful that you remember my uncle and guru Late Sri Kovai Dakshinamurthy's violin accompaniment. I would second @smala's request to upload any recordings if you possess them. I am always on the lookout for my Guru's work! :tmi:
