Great that Sangeethapriya is honoring our man!
Illustrious fellow-rasikA Chitravina Ravikiran adds substance to the event with his lec-dem.
Would have been there in Chennai, but I can't leave home on that particular day
Nick,
I do hope friends from the forum show up in large numbers, especially those who missed srkris and Pavithra's wedding feast

Srkris,
Are you already in Chennai? Any chance of your coming to Bengaluru?
Eesha,
Wish I were there...Wishing the event and participants a good evening. Hope local rasikAs gather in large numbers. Ravikiran (another member here at Rasikas) surely adds special value to the gathering.

Clash of dates means that I must function-hop --- but I will certainly be there to see skris receive his award and join in the congratulatory applause for him and Vijayagopal, before walking around the corner for the Harishankar memorial concert.

While congratulating srkris of our forum for being honored by sangeethapriya and all those who are sending in their best wishes to srkris. It looks odd that we do not even mention about the other awardee,Dr.Vijaygopal( baring a few members). His contributions to music certainly deserves a mention at least. This is my personal view and not to be taken amiss or on behalf of the other awardee

Thanks Sridharan for your richly deserving compliments to both the awardees.
It is nice of Sri Ramakrishnan to highlight the contributions of the memership of this Forum but for whom the Forum would not exist and yet, but for his vision all this collected storehouse of knowledge of CM would not have found a home and we are all eternally grateful to him and for the fitting recognition by conferring this award by
Sangitapriya.

It was indeed a nice function with large attendance. congrats to the organisers for recognising "Yessel" and "Bala" for their services. Due to an emergency had to go after the award function and could not stay for the lec-dem, which i am sure i could catch up through our forums.

Re: Rasikapriya 2011 award function invite
I was also there for the function, since eesha is going to post complete audio set ,I will skip typing the detailed proceeding. NickH was there and I think Crama and rajani also joined late . Of course Chitravina ravikiran was there and I attended his presentation till 8pm (eesha will you also upload the recording of his lecdem).
Our srkris dad shri suryanarayanan accepted the award and the prepared speech of his son srkris was read by eesha. The introduction of eesha before reading the prepared speech was more in lines of a soldier (rambo alias srkris), trying to restore the forum after migraine tion(Nick how did you find the opening before reading out the prepared speech), but srkris indeed wrote a good speech thanking many of us.
Personally I dont know anyone in sangeethapriya team (may be vasanthakokilam and sripathi_g are two stars in both rasikas and sangeethapriya teams), but there is lot of passsion which is very infectious with sangeethapriya teams. I liked the short speech of Dr gopalam too, who is chasing their bradman (tvg) in posting uploads of concerts in sangeethapriya.
WHile sangeethapriya has small teams of intense contributors and a large passive teams, I guess rasikas.org has a larger team of intense and active contributors (mere no of count of posts is certainly not any indication), with perhaps a lesser count of passive team than sangeethapriya.
overall there are two watchdog teams for CM , one is rasikas.org and the other sangeethapriya.org always in general trying to help carnatic/hm musicians , though the scope of misunderstanding ,miscommunication is always there .
The motto is perhaps simple "Bring more rasikas and make them more sangeetha priyas"
.Easy motto ,like drawing a city metro plan of chennai connecting all corridors
. I personally enjoy the journey ,let us measure after ten years to see where we are.

Re: Rasikapriya 2011 award function invite
I cannot say that rasikas.org and skris was not properly appreciated: that skris was given the award is more than enough evidence of the appreciation. What I felt would have been nice would have been a more personal touch from an active rasikas.org member. Just a few words; literally just two minutes.
skris is one of the silent workers who contribute such a lot, whether by running forums, websites, archives of lyrics, collections of music. It is easy to overlook that the quieter ones also have their expertise, depth of knowledge, enthusiasm for music and, of course, scholarship. I should like it to have been mentioned that skris falls very much in that category. Possibly he will attract more and more recognition in the future, although, I'm sure it is the last thing that is important to him.
His acceptance speech was very warm and personal, with its acknowledgement of the regular contributors to this site.
The award was a recognition that this site, for all its inevitable ups and downs over the years, is both a place for lovers of carnatic music to be, and a repository of a vast amount of knowledge and experience, not only in our elder members but in quite a few youngsters too. It is a recognition that skris keeps it going, through problems personal and technical...

Re: Rasikapriya 2011 award function invite
I appreciate srkris for being kind in speaking of me, the one who posts the most.
As Nick says, among the less visible members who contribute to the value and well-being of the forum, are several scholars and distinguished musicians. Some members offer a great deal in a short time, disappear for a while, and (thank goodness), come back. Then there are invisible rasikAs who read the posts regularly, but choose to remain silent. They benefit as well.
This mix works well, I think.
The minor flare ups are either results of quick tempers or ego clashes. In general, every member, old and new, has something to contribute, either actively or passively.
