Dear Sriram - all the best! I am sure it will be a memorable concert. Please convey my namaskarams to your father.
For the benefit of anyone for whom it may not be clear who is singing, it is the senior vidwan Manakkal Rangarajan - I would strongly encourage Chennaites to attend this concert. He is a living legend.

sriram,
I just heard your dad live only once in the last years new year bash , where he sang O rangasAyi and also heard him sung once in doordarshan towards the fag end of the program.
I recently had a chance to hear him in one of my many favourite rAgas brindavana sAranga . The krithi was a thyagarAja krithi "kamalApta kula", simply very very brilliant rendition by your dad .
I asked my periappa (aged 76) who is a die hard fan of GNB-MLV. He told shri manakkAl is a periya mahAn and added your dad was so good that every co-musician felt a sense of threat then. I found your dad style a lot like GNB,weighty voice, singing in a comfortably fast pace etc...
I will not be there as I am travelling to coimbatore tonight for a walkin interview . Good luck. Please dont hesitate to post again whereever he performs next time.I encourage all in chennai to attend the concert, preferably pass a chit of the kamalApta kula. Hope that chit is
, not
While you figure out a solution for tani exodus, I have no solution for my software exodus

I have always wondered why someone of the calibre of Shri Manakkal could not make it to the very top in Carnatic music (I am talking recognition, awards, etc. here). And Rajesh's statement:
clarified the matter for me. I feel it's a shame on the CM community not to have honoured this great vidwan appropriately. It's not late yet, hope the powers-that-be will set right this great injustice. He told shri manakkAl is a periya mahAn and added your dad was so good that every co-musician felt a sense of threat then.

Dear Rajeshnat,
Thank you. I would miss you badly tomorrow. Well wishes for a successful interview. Appreciation of true rasikas like you are the real award for appa. Awards can be purchased or acquired by any means but it can never match a coolkarni's or jayaram's or bharat's or rajeshnat's love for appa's music. These rasikas can be got only through god's grace. Flute mali refused to take the padmashri award stating that many of his seniors were not honoured properly. Chembai on his own honoured appa with sangeetha simham. Which award is greater than that. You are all Appa's precious treasure.
