70TH BIRTH DAY FUNCTION OF SUGUNA PURUSHOTHAMAN

The disciples of Vidhushi SugunaPurushothaman have organized a felicitation function for the vidhushi on the 70th birthday function on 24.03.2012 at Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan Hall.

Sri N.Murali, the secretary of the Music Academy was the presiding officer for the function. Sri P.S.Narayanaswamy, musician, Vidhushi Vedavalli and Cleveland V.V.Sundaram were the special invites for the function. Musicians Smt.Saroja & Lalitha, Sri Trichur Ramachandran & his wife, Sri Narasimhan, father of chitra veena Ravikiran and many artists were also attended the function.

The programme started at 05.00 PM with the singing the compositions of Vidhushi Suguna Purushothaman for one hour.

All the speakers have mentioned the achievements of the Vidhushi as an expert in dwipallavi singing, her sampradaya music and the fond way of teaching many disciples.

A CD containing many compositions of the Vidhushi and a book containing her compositions were released on the occasion.

Vidhushi Suguna Purushothaman in her speech thanked all the speakers for showering encomiums on her achievements.

There was a concert by Sri T.M.Krishna and party after the function from 07.15 PM.

I will try to upload the thanks giving speech of the Vidhushi in due course.

I was expecting MR.Nick would be attending the function. I was not able to locate him in the hall.

Many many happy returns of the day to the vidushi! One of the very special women of music who makes us feel proud!

TMK Concert was really good. Started quite late at almost 7:45. Started with Sri Dakshinamurthe in Sankarabharanam with a gripping long swaraprasthara. Todi kriti of Subbaraya Sastry was next with a great neraval. An excellent Atana alapana followed. Not sure if it was the presence of all the jambavans there, it seemed like TMK took this kutchery a notch up. Dr. Hemalatha provided wonderful support accentuating the creative splurges of the main artiste.
