ROHAN'S SUMMER INSTITUTE AT EASTMAN

Post by RKrishnamurthy »

Rohan as asked that I share this in this forum for any one interested. Last year he had three Indian students from out of station.

"I am happy to inform you that I will be offering South Indian percussion institutes (introductory and intermediate levels) from July 9 - 13, 2012 at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. This is the fourth year that these unique institutes will be presented by one of the nation's leading schools of music.

The week-long Eastman summer institutes are open to teachers, college and high school students, and general community members. We will explore essential techniques and approaches of the South Indian Carnatic percussive tradition. Participants will gain hands-on experience playing several traditional instruments, including the pitched mridangam, as well as other hand drums including the khanjira frame drum, ghatam clay jug drum, and konakkol, a unique system of vocal percussion. The institute will culminate in a public performance at Eastman. More information is available at: http://www.esm.rochester.edu/summer/col ... CPT_SIPbeg.

The workshops can be taken for college credit or professional development hours.

Please contact Eastman to register: [email protected], 585-274-1400 or 1-800-246-4706. Enrollment is limited so register soon!

Please share this message with anyone who might be interested in participating.

Thanks and looking forward to seeing you this summer!"
