A small but beautiful setup for the concert at a rasikas roof. 3 hours of non stop music followed. He started with Yaman in Vilambit Ektal and moved to a drut composition and finished on a high for the first hour. After a brief take of Yaman in film songs he moved to Mian Malhar singing two compositions. Then came a composition in Nat Malhar to expose his powress in Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. After this he explained the differences in both the Gharanas. I thought he would move on to finish the concert, but then came Behag with "Latu Uluje". After this followed Vachanas in Khayal styles in Durga, Bhatiyar and finishing off with Bhairavi.
It was more of a family Jugalbandi. His son Omkarnath whom I saw 3 years ago was in par with him and much improved and took turns constantly to sing. On the Tabla was his younger son and on the Harmonium his nephew. A nice way to end a Sunday and start Manic Monday.

Thank you for the report!
Nice to see these names on the Forum!
Bangalore has a rich tradition of Hindustani music as well - names like Rama Rao Naik, Sheshadri Gawai, Shyamala Bhave come to mind. I am trying to recollect some more names that I was familiar with from the 1970s and 1980s, but my "instant recall" button is failing right now!

I wish we could say the same about the Chennai music scene.
Karnataka is fortunate to have the best of both worlds as part of its culture.

Yes, yes, Thank you for refreshing my memory with these names! And, I was able to recall one more name from those days - Lalitha Ubhayaker.
Parveen Sultana was also a frequent performer in Bangalore.
Thalaivarda,
Sorry, I don't mean to derail this thread from Pt. Havaldar's concert review. Would you be able to identify which vachana-s were presented?
