Some fantastic Charukeshi by Ravikiran and Ronu Majumdar live. The mridangam and tabla also sounded very nice in earlier pieces.

A minor revelation with this rendition for me is how much of a straight note execution is involved in BahudAri. Not much gamakam and the raga bhava comes through so well. TVS's sruthi ( 2 kattai, I think ) matches the lower Pa of my flute and it was fun to follow them along for a few seconds!! ( a very loose definition of 'following' ). Just synching with TVS on a simple P M G.. sounds so good.

TVS's Sukhi evvaro sounded somewhat different from MMI's. Not sure why. sArasamukhi is pretty much on the MMI bANi.

Hmmm.. now sounding pretty much like straight kalyani. Also the main. ( just the beginning sounded a bit like MK to my ears.. It is probably just me )

KalyANi - agreed it had an odd beginning. The kAnaDa sketch was weird too. I enjoyed the bahudAri, and yes, staccato phrases were used to good effect. Nagai and Bhaktavatsalam are both accompanying beautifully.

Speaking of staccato sequences, NSG tried those very effectively in bEgaDa last night, I thought. Narmada faithfully recapitulated those phrases in her own essay too. It was good stuff.

bilahari, yes, I also enjoyed NSG and Narmada's bEgaDa and those kinds of phrases. He was also changing the naDai quite a bit, it sounded that way.
It is kind of a surreal and unplanned 10+ hours for me. Happened to see this thread late last night after coming back from watching 'Looper' ( time travel sci fi ) and decided to check out radiowalla. Looper->NSG->Sleep->TVS with the time change thrown in the middle. No complaints, all good.

After bEgada, a short but good Thani by Mannarkoil Balaji and N. Guruprasad followed ( thani for a misra chapu main is always interesting ).

NSG wrapped up quickly after that with a couple of thukkaDas which I do not recall exactly now. He did not have much time. The beat after the thani ended, he started on the next song ( it is all a blur, vaguely recall it to be parukkuLLe nalla nAdu ), then a thillana and a slokam to end the concert right at the scheduled finish time. ( if I missed something, please add/correct )

We want to thank all the artists. They have been generous enough to let us stream the concerts live. We really appreciate it. We had very little time to seek permission from all the artists featured in the festival despite that they have been very encouraging. We are highly grateful to them for their support. We respect the artists's principles and space. Like you can see we did have good technical support to broadcast the fest live. However, both T.M.Krishna and Nityashree Mahadevan had permitted us to air excerpts from their concert only for an hour. Like all the others who listened, we were equally disappointed about the fact that we were going to interrupt such wonderful concerts right in the middle of them. However, we would try and get the permission from both TMK and Nityashree Mahadevan to air the rest of the concert sometime later.

We also want to keep you posted that Priya Sisters' concert today would not be streamed. However, you can listen to Sandeep Narayan & Vijay Siva streamed live from Narada Gana Sabha !

They has an iOS app too. I am listening to Vijaya Siva now on that. Makes it feel like I am listening to a season CM concert live on AIR on a transistor radio!!

This makes the whole chore of getting ready to work a totally different vibe today and a great one. I am transported back to my late seventies Chennai.

Thank you to the artistes who granted permission as well.

I am not much a fan of gamanasrama, but I thought VS's shankarAbharaNam was sweet, with significant dwelling in the tAra stAyi. I loved Manoj Siva's accompaniment, and Charulatha Ramanujam was quite good, though her bowing on this occasion was not in the same class it was 5-6 years ago.

True Global village! Perhaps this is what Marshall McLuhan had in mind. I know this sounds cliched and all, but the same Carnatic concert reaching people in Chicago, Hanover and Toronto struck me as the perfect example of this extended shared consciousness.

Radiowalla, I hope you have plans for relaying concerts from the Chennai December season also!

While trying to login with facebook, radiowalla is trying to get personal details of the users from facebook such as "basic info" (userid, friends' User ID, my public information), my email address, about me and my birthday.

While loging in with gmail account, radiowalla tries to get the below information:
my name, public profile URL, and photo
my gender and birthdate
my country, language, and timezone

Why these details are required for radiowalla and how radiowalla intends to use them ??

I was allowed to "skip" the additional details thing. You may also do the same.

I too get really irritated when I need to supply personal information to read some newspaper article or whatever.
