02 12 2012 Evening session 20 00 hrs

It was 20 30 when Thani was over and left immediately. As usual Guruvayur Dorai's playing was excellent. I entered the venue when Thiruvanmiyur Asthikasamajam Narasimhan was praising earth to heaven Geetha Rajasekar's [ previous performer ] Madhyamavathi comparing it with TNR's playing.
On the valedictory function on 4th Dec Chief guest was TKM and N Ramani and few others viz Ravikiran his father Swaminathan president of Kanchi Mumoorthigal jayanthi besides narasimhan of Asthika samajam were present.

The concert was good. Both played with folding type non conventional Vina. The perormance was very nice and the lady disciple followed very nicely her guru.
After golden shawl ceremony a citation was given to TVS He was conferred with the title Madhura Kala Bhushana along with a cash purse of 10,000/= instituted by Thiruvarur M Bakthavathasalam as life time achievement Award.
Dr SK TKM
In his speech he mentioned the following.
He was a disciple of MMI and learnt more than 15 kritis. He underwent vocal training from ARI too
Though he was an adopted son of TJ Vaidhyanatha Iyer and could not be legally done due to some reason.
Initially MMI was with a regular hairstyle and later shifted to tuft and again to the original style.
He has been playing MMI from 1936 onwards.
Disbursement of sanmanam by MMI will be very fair.
At Palani in a concert MMI sang PK kriti Indhaparamukam along with Chowdayya . He after listening did not follow instead was simply enjoying MMI's music.
TB is playing purely in TJ style only nowadays.
He recollected the wedding of TSVembu Iyer at Mayavaram in which MVI sang along with Thiruvalankadu and TJ Vaidhyanatha Iyer.
SK Dr. NRamani
TSV's alignment of Sruti in Tambura was unique.
TVS has learnt lot of kritis for perfoming in foreign country.
Even now he learns new kritis whenever he takes music abroad.
TVS always goes with his own Tambura for all the concerts whether abroad or local
TVS in his acceptance speech mentioned all these honours are offered to his Guru MMI and TSV his father.
He feels humbled and this award is a very special one though he has earned lot of other honours and is thankful to all.
He considers this as a unique one as he receives from the hands of TKM
In 1975 TKM accompanied him on US tour and since then performed lot of concerts with him
TKM can sing well.
At his 8th year he had the first opportunity to listen TKM's thani and also his playing of kanjira.
SSI once mentioned about TSV as Gurubaktha Siromani.
He narrated an incident in which TSV, seeing MMI struggling with his voice due to an insect that entered in his mouth, without hesitation
he collected asking MMI to spit in his hands.
Mala a musicologist who compered the show was honoured with golden shawl by Ms Rajam wife of TMB
He also mentioned that whenever he gets an award Nagai Muralidharn used to accompany him and today also he is performing.
Finally TMB thanked everybody for the smooth conduct of this whole function
The concert of TVS started at 20 15 hrs. accompanied by Nagai ,TKM and Palghat Harinarayanan on mirudhangam.

The entire program was well organized and nicely conducted. Thala vadya performance by the students in different tala was the highlight everyday. The felicitation by different speakers mainly focus on their closeness and association with the artistes instead of the contributions by the artistes. As usual could not sit for the entire program till the end. Corrections if any are most welcome.
