Pattabhirama Pandit Narada Gana Sabha Mini Hall 16.12.2012

Post by Mdrnkvn »

Listened to a fabulous concert one Shri Pattabhirama Pandit. Accompaniments Dr. Hemalatha (violin) and Mannargudi Easwaran (Mrudangam) Udupi Sridhar Ghatam

1. Abhoghi varnam
2. Sadinchane
3. Pirava varam thaarum - lathangi
4. Anupama guna ambudhi
5. RTP todi - 2 kalai
6. Saramaina
7. Jagat Uddharana
8. Sarvam Brahma mayam
9. Geet dhuni - Tillana

Lathangi and Todi were fabulous. The detailed ones. Swaram in Kanda chapu in atana was lively. Kanakku vazhakku fitted nicely in all renditions.
Want to write more. Will do so. But let me first enjoy the feeling. :) What a Todi alapana! The anuswarams, gamakams, soft linkages, flat dhaivatams... uff! Scholarly!

Will wait for the release of album. Only one advice for him. He should preserve his voice. Sometimes, I think he overstretches his timber before it relaxes.. Have to be careful.

Long live Dr. Hemalatha for the spirited response. Lovely todi in keezh notes. Full and smooth bowing.
Shri Easwaran led from the front, and enjoyed the rendition. Such a lovely team. Ghatam was supportive

MDRKVN,
There are many raga versions of this krithi. Did pattabihi sing this in madhuvanti? Nice to see a review of Pattabhi- Tx .

I have always heard Pattabhi sing this in Madhuvanti only. I am guessing that it would have been in the same raga. He usually precedes it with a shloka in honor of his guru, KVN Mama, which goes something like 'nArAyaNa nAma pArayaNa mama gurum vandE' or something like that. Don't know if he sang it this time.

Heard him at raga sudha hall after may be an entire season & was disappointed by the overly affected singing style (nasal, slurring).

That was an intensely mental concert. A friend suggested to me that this could be partly because of the team, which included UKS. So many numbers!

I was not familiar with that raga rajesnat. I started like kalyana vasantham and sounded like chandrakauns - but then detected kakali nishadha. Then decided against diagnosing as I was missing the mood. So just went along whatever he created. Now that you mention the name of madhuvanti, I think it was like that.
Thanks for the info
