Well planned and a beautifully structured concert, with the right alavu for all the manodharma aspects too. They began the concert with the less heard Ragamalika Varnam, followed by 3 to 4 avartanams of swarams for the Chinnanadena krithi. Shashikiran presented a melodious, moving Alapana of Kumudakriya. Jyotsna in return played a neat sketch of the ragam. In rememberance of their guru T.Brinda, they sang the Bairavi swarajathi as swara-sahityam. Ramachandru ithadu was a nice filler ! Ganesh sang a superb saveri ragam, with the tanam being shared by the duo. Being the start of the 200th anniversary year of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal, Shashikiran announced that they had decided to use his line Bhaavayami raguramam Bhavyasugunaramam... Their trikalam format was slightly different post their neraval. They sang ragamalika swarams in Natakurinji, Danyasi, Mohanam, Mukhari, Poorvikalyani and Madyamavathi, coming back to Saveri each time with the connecting swaras from the song itself....GRSD RSD SD GRNDMGRSD. Gowrishankar played an effective crisp Thani avartanam. It was nice to see that the post main section was not rushed...they comfortably sang 3 beautiful pieces and wound up the kucheri !

I was at this concert and other than the opening varnam was left disappointed by the list and execution. The song list had little new in it and the swara sahityam did not work well and RTP felt too long. The post-main portion lifted the concert a bit.

Tastes indeed do differ. One man's food can be another's poison ! Am I correct that the two are not real brothers but only brothers in performance.

I think they are cousins --- which is a closer degree of relationship than many of the "brothers" and "sisters" of the stage.
I enjoyed the concert. I was impressed by the contributions from Jyotsna ("disclaimer," as people like to say: she's a friend from London) and Toronto Gowrishankar's mridangam was very good.

They are "cousin brothers" according to the usage in Indian English.Sundara Rajan wrote: Am I correct that the two are not real brothers but only brothers in performance.

The academy sound system is a wonderful boon to mrudangam artistes.
The full capability of the instrument is experienced only in this hall.

i was also present in the concert just was about to post the review but someone posted before me
+ The Rare songs made audience surprised
+ Remembered the style of T.brindha & T.Muktha ammas duo by singing in the same type they sang
that duo used to sing one person swaram and another person sahitiyam .
