KVN Legacy

Post by KNV1955 »

I do not know how many members of this forum have heard HV Srivatsan singing, a desciple of KV Narayanaswamy. He is in Bay Area & works in IT field. He is violinist & has accompanied KVN in 80's & 90s in several concerts. His bowing style is similar to TNK style. I am sure all KVN fans would have heard him accompanying on violin for KVN. It is his singing which the Chennai audience are missing. Recently in Nov 12 he performed in Chennai on 15th Nov (KVN Birthday function); at Parvathi Hall organised by TRS & at TAG Centre. He has assimilated KVN’s style thoroughly & is the best of KVN students. Music Academy has a slot for an Andhra, Kerala & Karnataka artist. It is time they create a slot for a NRI artist. In such a case Srivatsan can make an entry into Academy prime slot. He will be an excellent representative of Ariyakudi/KVN School of music. Srivatsan is a very shy person & doesn’t like to promote himself. I will post an interview of Srivatsan on his master KVN which appeared elsewhere in this forum.

KNV,
it would be great if you can share some of his music online...I would love to hear him, I was introduced to him by Sri KVN himself in the '80s.

There are NRI musicians like sangeetha swaminathan(she sang last year too) , Salem shriram (he is singing after few years gap during this year), who are singing in afternoon slot in academy. I think prime slot (two evenings) are way too crowded , perhaps more sabhas should notice him is a better bet. I have not heard hemmige srivatsan yet. Pattabhi(especially) and this real young ashwath are also very good to carry out kvn's legacy which I am sure you do know.

Nick H ... "NRI Sangeetha Kalanidhi."..Not a bad idea at all. Srivatsan would definitely qualify in 20 years from now. No exaggeration. If you listen to his singing & Violin playing you will endorse my view. There are these two wonder kids Siddharth & Ashok(NRIs) learning Vocal from Seethalakshmi mami & Violin from Charumathi Raghuram. See the Sruti Blog on morning sessions at Music Academy covered by Siddharth. Nishant Chandran another NRI is a good violinist .

rajeshnat.. I haven't heard Sangeetha or Salem Sriram. Let me see if I can attend Sangeetha concert tomorrow (clashing with office timing). I should be able to attend Sriram's concert since it is on a Saturday.

And T Viswa before him.

I remember a wonderful Navaratri concert that Viswa had organized at Wesleyan that brought together KVN, HV Srivatsan and Trichy Sankaran.

Here is Sankaran on KVN: http://www.oocities.org/kala-mag/articl ... emoir.html

They announced in the Nada Neerajanam programme of the SVBC channel (Tirupathi), that Salem Sriram (from USA) is singing tomorrow i.e 23rd dec evening.

Heard Anuradha Suresh Krishnamurthy on Vijay TV the other day. I sincerely hope she is not part of the KVN legacy because she was just horrible.

Anuradha is very talented. She has assimilated all aspects of KVN music. Her grip in layam is solid. Unfortunately she lost her voice bit too early.
