Mods, please change the title of this thread to soemthing less sensational. I propose: "Our condolences to Smt Nithyashree." We should just quietly sign our names in our posts. I don't want to offend anyone who has posted so far, but I would appreciate mods removing the sensational news items and insensitive headlines "Hubby!!!".. We need to maintain the usual decorum in the virtual world too.

I on purpose did not include the name as at that point the news on The Hindu was only 12 mins old, not a lot to go on. I didn't want to sensationalise the issue just in case. I guess now that it's all clear, we can change the title to something different. Hope I've not offended anyone, that was not my intention, I was just hoping that the story to turn out to be a hoax

looks like family problems, I was reading this in Indian newspapers and researching, looks like they had some issues. I think this sort of ego things happen in musician families and he may have had psychological issues. looks like he did not permit her to song often in early days and may have had issues. What a big loss and how short sighted people are.

This kind of thing is unfortunate and certainly rather tragic. The couple have two small kids too. The effect of this on them is probably something I can't even begin to imagine. Because Nithyasree has name recognition, there would be certain amount of speculation in the media. But what happens inside of a marriage is a mystery to everyone outside of it. So why should we, as people who believe to a certain extent at least in the institution of marriage, participate in the same sort of speculation that the media might indulge in? Also as a rasika, I feel, the vidwan and in this case, the vidushi, deserves nothing but our wholehearted sympathy during times of personal travail. My 2c.

My sincere condolences to the family. Without going into too many details, I think our Chennai news organizations should be taught a lesson in decorum and respect for the deceased and the family when broadcasting the details of this tragedy. When reporting on such tragedies in North America, news organizers typically refrain from presenting photos, videos, or even the manner of death (at least when it comes to North Americans -- another gripe altogether). The departed leave behind spouses, children, families, and memories -- our news organizations must be mindful of this before they commit their sensationalizations to posterity.

That was a rumor. Her family clarified that she is fine and didn't take any such step. Those were fabricated stories

Good news finally! Heard from a reliable source that Smt. Nithyasree will be making a return to the stage shortly, in a duet performance with her childhood friend and fellow vocalist Dr. S. Sowmya. At the Music Academy's Thyagaraja Day concert on Sunday Feb 3rd, featuring Thyagaraja compositions exclusively! Accompanists MA Krishnaswamy, Poongulam Subramanian & Chandrasekara Sarma.
