Re: Vaggeyakara Utsava@Ranjani Fine Arts on 12th January, 20
Ranjani Fine Arts organised the 1st Annual "Vaggeyakara Utsava" on January 12, 2013 at Sobha Lakeview Clubhouse, Off Sarjapur Outer Ring Road, Bellandur, Bengaluru. This Utsava was inaugurated by noted veena Vidushi Smt Bhagyalakshmi Chandrashekar. This was a unique attempt to involve the community in celebrating and paying tribute to all composers, past and present, for having brought Classical Music to the form and shape it is in today and the response was overwhelming. 15 Music Schools in the neighborhood participated in the day long celebration.
There was a devotional outpouring with over a 100 songs in as many ragas rendered by around 200 people paying tribute to over 25 vaggeyakaras. There was vocal music and several instruments like veena, violin, flute, mridangam and sitar. There were Carnatic and Hindustani styles on display. Individual performances and group renditions were well interspersed. Performances were by music schools, members of RFA, musicians and children, by the young and the old ( 5 years to 70+ years ) and to top this, a spirited group rendition of pillari geetams and pancharatna kritis. Who knows, there may be a few vaggeyakaras in the making among the children who performed at this Utsava.
