Venue: Ramanchya Bhavan, Bhopal
Organizer: Akashwani, Bhopal
Thank you to an email from a Rasikas.org colleague, I was immersed and introduced to 3 days of Carnatic and Hindustani music in 4 degree temperature in Bhopal. As part of the Alladin Khan Sahib Festival, I attended the last and final day of this festival organized by Akashwani, Bhopal.
The event was a double header with a Sarod/Sitar jugalbandi by Pundit Ranjeet Sen Gupta and Pundit Aseem Chowdhary. I reached the auditorium late as the jugalbandi was winding down. I was there to attend the tala vadya kutcheri by AIR artistes.
Mridangam: Vidwan Prem Kumar (AIR Delhi)
Ghatam: Vidwan Ramamurthy (AIR Delhi)
Tabla: Ustad Rashid Mustafa Khan (AIR Delhi)
Pakhawaj: Pundit Ravi Shankar Upadhyaya
The talavadya kutcheri was a standard fare with all artistes doing their part with no loud banging and one up on another. The pakhawaj by far was the most melodious of instruments and the artiste had excellent control of the instrument.
This is not a review, but more of an information report from Bhopal.
