Bharath,

Thanks, Cienu.
If so, I must have heard her singing with Golden girl (as we call PP here). The one wearing glasses? Then, she's not a senior(in age) artiste as I thought.

Smt G Seethalakshmy is singing at Sri Vedavyasar Tapovanam (Ashram of Guruji Sri Kasi Viswanathar near kamarajapuram off Tambaram) today evening. Organised by Nadarupini kalakendra, music school attached to Tapovanam and run by Smt N S Lekshmy, who has studied under Smt. Seethalakshmy.
Tapovanam organises quality events frequently.

I must say Smt Seethalakshmi is quite a senior artist. You can find here to the left in this video accompanying the GG so immaculately.
This was the first song I heard Smt Ponnammal sing and it left me in tears. What a mind blowing Saveri.

Smt Seethalakshmi is a very senior artist from Trivandrum. She is a direct disciple of SSI and also has learnt for PP. She accompanied PP on many occasions as a supporting vocalist.
She is retired from the faculty of Trivandrum Music College. She currently lives in the US with her children. I think she lives in Columbus.

In the few concerts that I attended of Golden Giril, the vocal support was given by bama krishnan, u may have mistaken bama krishnan for seethalakshmi

In the navarathri mandapam videos, both Seethalaksmi and Bhama are on both sides of PP
She is prolly the only lady disciple of SSI, to have accompanied him on stage, during the late 60s.

Thank you Bharath and Rajesh--and Cienu again.
Yes, Rajesh, I heard PP several times in Chennai, and Bhama Krishnan was the one who accompanied her at those times.

Amazingly powerful voice, control and range reminiscent of Ella Fitzgerald or Billy Holiday from a senior diminutive relatively unknown artiste.
Very few concerts have the simplicity and directness of the post main section overshadow the intricacy and complexity in the pre main part of the concert. This was one.
A memorable concert!

Re: Trivandrum G Seethalakshmi, Nada Inbam
I attended this concert under strict instructions to do so from several friends. Really, my health and state of mind was not up to it. It is such a shame when that happens and one is not able to do justice to what one is hearing. I would have liked to have dozed. Could anyone doze during this lady's performance? Absolutely no way! Such intensity! Such energy! Astonishing. She sang with the power and energy of a nagaswaram recital.
I would love to see her perform without mic/amplification, which she really doesn't need at all. It might be a little unkind on the accompanists, though, who would have to work hard to match her. She would perfect for an Oli concert: what a shame that the Oli year of concerts is over.
Anyway, it is a shame that her sojourn in Chennai is so short. Hoping to be able to do justice, as a listener, to her singing sometime soon.

Smt GS's concert at Tapovanam (Tambaram, Chennai (see my post dt. 24 Mar) was a solemn experience. I could attend the programme only for about 45 mnts as I had to leave due an urgent domestic commitment, unfortunately.
The event -billed as Guru vandanam- commenced with receiving GS at the entrance of the ashram and leading her to the hall with the students of Nadarupini kalakendra singing the Pallavi of the kriti Guruleka (Gowri manohari)in a highly befitting manner. The welcome address was given by Dr N S Lekshmy, disciple of GS and head of Nadarupini. GS has been in the US for about 5 years now with her daughter, teaching music.
The concert started (in the holy presence of Guruji Swami Kasiviswanathar) with a Tamil kriti in Nattai on Lord Ganesa. The second item was Swati Tirunal's outstanding composition Gangeya vasana with an excellent Aalaapana of Hamirkalyani. Next was an authentic aalaapana of Mukhari for Elavathaara which was rendered superbly. I had to leave when she began the aalaapnana of Varaali that followed. I shall at least furnish the list of kritis she rendered once I get it. I could feel that the concert would be a memorable one.
Melakaveri Balaji(V), Thillasthaanam Surianarayanan(M) and Madipakam Murali(G) provided good accompaniment.
