Played mrudangam for the vocal concert of Sandeep Narayan. The concert was organized by Kalpakkam Sangeetha Sabha at Sri Varasiddhi Vinayakar Temple, Kalpakkam.

Happy to see that you are playing all over Chennai. Good going! I've seen your father taking pictures at your concerts. You could post them, one with each concert that you post, I think. Sandeep is well known by now (another Rasikas.org member) but would also like to see the other young musicians that you play for.

An almost all tamizh songs concert, I see! Mighty ViribONi to start with. It's commendable for someone who grew up here in the USA. Wishing you luck in what already looks like a very promising career There are dozens of north american youngsters here who are keen on following in your footsteps. Little Kamalkiran Vinjamuri among others is already doing that!

Thanks Ram, for posting the concert list, I did not now that you were the Ramsabode guy..

This was beautiful concert by Sandeep and his team. We,the members of the Kalpakam township were absolutely delighted at the energetic concert, as some Rasika said, "Sandeep rocked". Close your eyes.. there was Sanjay's music all over the place..
Kudos to Sandeep for having picked up the (difficult) carnatic music style of Sanjay so well. I am particularly amazed at the ease with which he sings Tamizh, Telugu and Sankrit songs so well, despite growing up so far from India. It was nice to see this kid, brave the sweltering heat of south Indian summer, for the cause of carnatic music.

Vijay's violin was very good, also toeing the lines of his Guru in the neraval swaram repartees. Ram's mrudangam tani was soft and succinct. Throughout the concert he followed the laya patterns etched by the vocalist, impeccably.

Good to hear that the youngsters did so well. Vijay is the only one who isn't a member here at Rasikas.org--or is he? An excellent guru he has, no doubt.

Ram's anusaraNai (playing along with the singing all through) is his style--and he does that unobtrusively.The fine art of playing comes from learning from his guru UKS, of course.
KalpAkkam--where is it? As Rajesh would say, if many more sabhas come up in the outskirts of Chennai, the better it is for many rasikAs who simply cannot make it to the hub in the city for fear of traffic, delays and the horror of getting back home with auto(cratic) drivers who demand an unreasonable fare at that hour. Add to it the fact that the majority of them are senior listeners who do not ply two or four wheelers

Kalpakkam is township 70 km south of Chennai.. Connected to it by the now good east coast road, (ecr) for short. All people here work for research centre/power plant etc. we used to have a vibrant Sabha many years ago.. Sandeeps concert is an effort to give it a kick start.
sandeep's raga exposition in yadukulakhambhoji and shubhapantuvarali were excellent. In shupantuvarali he had a part which sounded like magudi.. It was very lovely..

Hope my Login ID here at Rasikas.org gives the clue to you. Me being a MAVERICK fan of the MASTER would have enjoyed this concert of the disciple. All top class MASTER favourites. Hope to see u soon at a city concert.

i have never heard of concert in kalpakkam. good to hear that this was a full fledged concert org once and that it is being revived with this concert. how was the crowd for this concert? hope it was encouraging. best wishes for a long journey with music
