Just a small request. Even though you have given the link to your blog, Kindly share the details of the accompanists here too, when you start a thread about a concert. And i presume that, kanjira is by Amrit, looking at the photo.

Regarding Mrudangam participating in alApanA, UKS Sir has done something similar earlier too, in a Chitravina Ravikiran Concert, where he played a short one avarthanam interludes in between alApanAs. In that concert, he went on to add that, such a practice exists in nAdaswaram concerts.

I thought the mini tavil interludes during nadaswara alapana was to give a breather for the nadaswara vidwans, esp. when they render some of the big ragas for an hour or so.

When there are long gaps in an MDR concert, PMI usually has a mini tani (impromptu) for theermanam (during which MDR also used to tie his tuft).

UKS had some set patterns in DKJ concerts; for e.g. as in Mamurameedhil Erivaa (Bilahari) or Khamas thillana etc.
