Phoney Rasika
Before you think I am deviously criticising your personal tastes in CM or your kelvi gnanam, let me assure you this is all about you and your phone.
The good old days of the Golden Age of CM were filled with large shellac rotary phones with Five digit or four digit numbers. Often you could say your phone was down. To call long distance we would need a week-ahead planning as it meant a long wait at the phone for a trunk call.
Today musicians and rasikas are looking less at each other than at mini shiny glass surfaces and furiously pressing thumbs and all and often smiling or frowning or even screaming at them to everyone else's dismay. Welcome to the Phoney Rasika.
From those toy typewriters called QWERTY phones today you have SMART PHONES. The sum total of smartness between the man and his phone has remained the same so you find people loudly talking and texting at street corners, wedding mantaps, concert stages and front rows. Bartolli loves her dad but said post match that he was constantly on the phone during her Wimbledon final. Obama was texting during his swear-in.
As a rasika you can do many things with your new phone. Listen to music, record it, relay it, take videos, snaps, search rasikas.org, listen to radio, watch webcasts, download YouTube, Skype chat, gossip, chat, research, and send posts like I am doing now in my car.
With all this extrasensory nonsense called a smart phone, which has become now a large flat plastic sheet of gigantic size called a phablet (from Sanskrit PHALAKA), the rasika has been redefined. We have shorter attention spans, longer and wider flat objects to hide yourself behind, and enjoy the music where you are not (that's a pun).
I am seeing a Sangeetha hoarding which promises 15% cash back if you buy a new smart phone now. Welcome to the Window to an Android. Called the Iphoney rasika!

Smartphones, Phablets, 7" tablets and 10" iPads are for people with weak arms and feeble minds.
I am getting a 21" tablet. I was disappointed Apple didn't bring out one during their last conference and name it iMaxipad.
I only have to figure out how to roll an Internet cable from my home in Alwarpet to Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan or Sastri Hall in Mylapore.
Once that is done, I shall also be posting live from concerts! Until then, I have to wait a week, collect my thoughts, organize them into a coherent whole, and write deathless prose to convey them to the unwashed masses.

Using a banana leaf as wallpaper, you would even be able to eat off it. I look forward, not so much to your live concert posting, but to your live eating posts, keeping us up to date by the minute on wedding feasts.

Re: Phoney Rasika
Here is a scoop!
Apple is working on a secret project to develop the smartest phone. That will be called iTelepohne. It will capture sound from the future - at present only up to a year - no video.
You may be able to hear the next SK performing one year ahead.
The technology is based on Tachyons and ECG Sudarshan is heading the team. Pentagon wants to keep it secret but Sudarshan said no go unless it is available to capture CM!
The prototype may hit the markets by 2020 and will be priced at $10,000 a piece. There will be a special pricing for India since by that time Rupee will be sinking so low that no one will be able to afford one!
Apple is considering to outsource the manufacturing to India. It appears there will be a heavy competition between Chennai and Bangalore. J, who hopes to cling to power is thinking of using it as a trump card to get Kaveri waters
I will keep you posted as I get more tidbits through the grapevine!

Truth is stranger than fiction
Yogi Rama told Steve Job that he knows the yoga technique (iYoga ?) which will permit one to teleport into future and listen to music in the future. He said he will reveal it if only there is the guarantee that it will not be commercially exploited.
Too bad Steve did not live to implement the project

Old phony deals turned into 'phone'y scam deals
Now, we have 'turn the world around' schemes
Good and bad, until the world comes to an end--
The old story will have reruns of many versions--
The constant war of churning the ocean and
Coming up with nectar and a potion for destruction--

Sir I have used iPhones since 2007. Buy a 64 GB 4G Model and get a Bose in the ear headset. You can hear even the minor culinary conversation between the tambura and Khanjira artistes. Apart from the mridangam arre chappu, toppi, gumki, and crystalline violin, sound, and sharp intakes of breath during niraval and swaras, of the main artistes.
