Great scholar . A very friendly gentleman. I had a chance to listen to him at Boston once; I talked to him after the concert and I asked him a question about the possible relation of one particular raga to another particular raga thru modal shift. Then and there in the lobby, without any sruti-help , he immediately experimented and demonstrated all the modal shifts of one raga and explained how there was no relationship.

I remember that he gave many music -lessons- tapes and made them available at Pittsburgh temple. His explanation of Melakartha Ragas thru tuning Jayadeva's Ashtapathi verses was excellent.

My heartfelt condolences to his family and disciples.

Another great loss to the CM fraternity! Sincere condolences to his family, disciples and rasikas.

There are two recordings of his that I listen to all the time. The first is the one that Varsha shared (with LGJ/VR), the other is a wonderful collection of compositions in all 72 melakartas with an explanation/demo for each ragam. A true scholar and a pillar of CM is no more.

This book was a compilation of his lectures about the pancharatnams in the 1980s at the Music Academy. Scholarly and informative.
