One person worth being considered is Smt (Prof) Bhagyalakshmi of Trivandrum who has contributed to the propagation of CM in all the arenas quite silently...

Sri THV received the Sangita Kala Acharya award so it probably means he won't get the SK

Kiss of death for SK. They would be great in the morning lecture demos and preside over the convention with confidence and make things interesting, rather than acting like a gracious host which seems to be the norm.

Very similar to this, we have started our speculation on the Next Nobel Literature Winner ( 90 days to go) at a different forum. Ladbroke has been running their bet on Nobel for some years now..

I think a senior artist should be honored. The young artists have many more bright years ahead of them. It would be good if the academy recognizes some senior while alive, for their service to Carnatic Music There are many young artists who deserve them ,but the senior artist's time is limited.

Why OST in not in contention?He is as old as TNS I heard.After TMT no one from SSI school has been awarded.I am writing this because I am finding names of artists much younger.I welcome if they select either TVG or VVS.

When most of the nominations are in do create a "voting pad" so that members can start voting as you had done before. You can periodically tally the results so we get to know where our popular votes go so MA can have a feel for public opinion (not that they care

If a few more names are nominated in the next few days, and if there are those of us who need to look at the whole list before we can vote, the poll better be opened after the names come in.

Not because I'm a senior, but because (as maduraimini says) the older vidvAns aren't going to be around in say, twenty year's time (if their wait gets deferred because 1: someone who plays percussion was chosen last year, 2: a woman needs to be given a chance this year and so on (in the Academy's view), where do they stand a chance?

Ravikiran isn't in a hurry to get one this year (my guess) because several of the artistes he admires are still not SKs. His vidvat (for his age) can equal, if not far exceed that of a number of senior artists. For that very reason, I would not consider voting for any among the younger set.

Thanks for the extension of time for rasikAs to name their preference.

I thought about NSG earlier, wondering why he isn't in the list among younger musicians who have been named.
I'm thinking--if only the Academy for the next few years gives awards to the older ones and then starts a trend of awarding the honor to musicians when they are still young but deserving! This can be achieved sooner if they change their policy a bit and give two awards each year--a kalanidhi for a vocalist and one for an instrumentalist.This way the backlog can be dealt with, too.

Of course, TVG is all rolled in one!

Guys, the maximum number of options is 10. So we need to leave out those who are unlikely and include only the most likely.

The Academy may announce someone before our poll ends but let's wait until the weekend for nominations as CML suggests.

The Executive Committee of the Music Academy will meet on July 28 to consider nominations for and select this year's Sangeetha Kalanidhi.

If you want to waste your time, please continue making suggestions here as to who should get it or speculate on it. :-@

It would be a far far better thing (to quote from Dickens) that one would do if one were to publicly announce that he would hang himself if X, Y or Z doesn't get the title; or if A, B, or C is awarded the title!

I have also heard from extremely reliable sources that the announcement will be coming out on July 28 or shortly thereafter.
The person I spoke to said that a decision was at hand and they are guarding it with utmost secrecy and will continue to do so till the said date.

Dear Rasikas,

TM Krishna, Sanjay, Sudharaghunathan, Ravikiran - looks too early for the title.The names of Vijaya siva and N Santhana gopalan should be considered before TM Krishna,Sanjay or Sudha.
VV subramanyam , TV Gopalakrishnan,OSTyagarajan are definitely the deserving candidates to hold SK title.
Rudrapatnam brothers are performing from 3 decades and are regularly featured in MA,but i think they are not considered by Rasikas.

Why I voted for ShriRavi Kiranji..

While all those in the contest are very good Musicians...Ravi kiran is not only a good Musician but he is good composer, researcher,

and he was able to introduce the melody of the instrument in various forums around the world and energetic ...and also sings well

While considering a merit oriented award, age may not be impediment for an young artist...
